What is the process to make it on the mock trial team or moot court?

Did you do OCI at the school if so what was it like?shawty18ga wrote:I can echo what snakemongler says about ties. I have not found them to be super important in this part of Florida. The truth is that most people here are from somewhere else. Being unique can help.
I've had good success in interviews and great success in trial ad partly because people here find my accent intriguing.
When I interviewed with the firm I currently work for, the two partners who interviewed me were both from other places. One from NYC and the other from Pittsburgh. I think maybe one or two attorneys at my twenty attorney firm are from Florida originally.
Like snakemongler said, this might be a bit different if you move out into some of the rural areas.
I'm not sure about moot court. I think there are a couple of ways.SunshineMagic wrote:snakemongler84 wrote:I'm in my last semester at Stetson. Feel free to pose questions; I will do my best to check back a couple of times.

So is it a script you are doing a monologue from or can you create your own?shawty18ga wrote:I'm not sure about moot court. Trial team tryouts consist of two rounds and an interview if I remember correctly. The first round is a closing argument. If you make it to the second round, there's an interview first. Then the second round is a cross examination and a closing for the opposite side. The selection criteria are extremely subjective based on whatever the coaches think the team needs that particular year.

Oh no. No script at all. You have a fact pattern and you have to make up your own closing. One of the things they like a lot (it seems) is if you can come up with a catchy theme. You decide 100% what to say.So is it a script you are doing a monologue from or can you create your own?

Yes, that is the case -- although it hasn't / won't make much difference for me because of the PSLF route I am taking.kellie0021 wrote:Snakemongler - you said you didn't get a scholly coming in, implying you received one second/third year. is that the case?
I don't think anyone has made a facebook group yet. If you want to start one that would be great. Not going to be there next week, but I will be attending. Feel free to pm me if you wantkellie0021 wrote:cool thanks.

I am. And someone should make a group and then post the link in here for everyone to join.arizonastategirl23 wrote:Is everyone on Stetsonconnect already too? P.s. we definitely need a facebook group!
I live in Florida, between Ocala and Gainesville. I have not been accepted at this point. Kettles talked to me about Part time via email two weeks ago. I hope a personal visit will make the difference in being accepted Full Time. I have been accepted to Syracuse, but would rather stay in Florida near family and the beaches.GatorCTS wrote:Thats who I met with today and then toured afterwards as well. I'm in the exact same situation. I was accepted to the part time program about a month ago after speaking to him thru email about my interest in the part-time program. He's a nice guy but he told me any move to the full time program wont be till summer after they go through their waitlist. So if any spots are open after that he said he'd consider moving me over to full time. But if you can't move over in the summer he said you can do it after your first year, which includes classes next summer.disconnected wrote:I live in Florida, between Ocala and Gainesville.
