Re: UIUC 2015
Answered in the other thread but I looked it up in the academic policy handbook now. The max you can take outside the law school for credit is 12 if you are doing a interdisciplinary program (basically a non-formal joint degree program). It has to be graduate level though. You can take up to 6 hours of non-law credit if it's approved by the associate dean and it's graduate level and you get at least a B.
Doesn't say anything about finishing a BS while in law school.

Blurbz, let him be. If anyone takes Indiana/Iowa/Wisconsin or what not over Illinois BECAUSE of the scandal and the "effect" this will have in hiring is likely dumb/misinformed enough that I rather not have that person graduate from this school. While I have many beefs with Illinois, I have not met a single person that does not have complaints about their law school, this school more than served its purpose for me. I feel like I am getting a great legal education (the professors at Illinois are objectively (there are rankings for this) better than most of those schools) AND I got a biglaw job (outside of Chicago) out of it without being top of the class.blurbz wrote:Remember, Illinois will lock in your tuition for all three years, too. I wish they'd done that for my class!
What more can I ask for?
Honestly, If people are this crazy as a 0L, I cant imagine how neurotic they will be in law school.

Re: UIUC 2015
The amount of money that has been doled out as grants, scholarships and student loans has exploded in that period. Schools know people are less reticent about borrowing obscene amounts of money than they used to be. Why not jack the price up since people don't care about it since 'loans will pay for it' is the prevailing attitude? Students tend to not 'notice' as much when they drop $40k on tuition since it was never 'actually' their money to begin with. It never hits your bank account it all goes straight to the school so it never really gets ingrained in you that you just flushed $40k down the drain and have to pay it back until the time comes to pay it back.mattviphky wrote:well that's instate. So more like 9k to 37k in 11 years...but yeah, still an insane jump. I wonder if state or UIUC funding waned for the law school, or if they actuallly invested that money into something?givemea170 wrote:I have an economics major and I don't fully understand that. 9K to 44K in 11 years when demand currently is probably lower than it was in 2001?mattviphky wrote:Talked to a guy tonight that started at UIUC Law in 2002. Tuition was 13k a year. After looking for some more info online, I saw that it was 9k a year in 2001. WTF! The job market was better, and tuition was like 1/4 of what it is now!!!
As long as the government continues granting the limit increases on student loans (that the schools themselves lobby for) you will continue to see tuition rise. "Oh you can't afford it? Borrow another $30K"...and the students keep obliging. Thus how you end up with tuition increases that are more than 10x the rate of inflation at some schools.

Don't hold your breath. The 20th is the first deposit deadline, and it seems unlikely that they'd make WL decisions before then. Also, there's no WL->Accepted entry for April from last year on LSN.timetopretend wrote:Anyone else here on the waitlist still waiting to hear back? I'm still waiting to hear back as well. Hopefully a lot of people get too consumed in 'the scandal' that they take other options as UIUC is my top choice as well.timetopretend wrote:Anyone else here on the waitlist still waiting to hear back? I'm not expecting any movement one way or another until after the deposit deadline passes and they know which one of their acceptances are taking the plunge and which ones are taking other options. I'm sure most people who were accepted and not attending haven't written to them immediately to inform them that they aren't attending. Most people seem to like to keep their safety valves in place as long as humanly possible.

Thanks for your responses. I´ll start lighting up the school´s e-mail accounts later when I commit to Illinois.Ludovico Technique wrote:Answered in the other thread but I looked it up in the academic policy handbook now. Guilty as charged...I´m holding on to my other acceptances till the last possible minute out of sheer paranoia.tmon wrote:Don't hold your breath. Half-deposited at Chicago-Kent and waiting for UIUC until the world ends (or until classes start in the fall).timetopretend wrote:Anyone else here on the waitlist still waiting to hear back? On another note, I pass by the law building every morning on my way out and my heart aches from being wait listed!

There were a couple people wearing jeans and dress shirts, most people wore dress pants.littlepanda wrote:question for those who attended the march 30 open house.. what did most of the guys wear? are jeans acceptable?

I felt like it was definitely a mix, but maybe that's because I didn't dress up. I wore a nice, dark, well-fitted pair of jeans though, and felt completely acceptable. Did the same at another admitted student's event and thought it was fine there, too. Be comfortable, but not sloppy and you'll be fine.

I'm sure that this is all over the thread, but I don't have time to read it right now. When is/was the first deposit deadline?

Thanks. Ugh, looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet and put my deposit in @ Michigan State since I probably won't hear back before April 20th.

I need to pay that deposit soon! It's just kinda hard to part with 500 bucks. Unrelated note, SO STOKED FOR ILLINI FOOTBALL! I grew up on notre dame, but luckily the two teams have nothing to do with one another.

Does anyone know if they've historically been willing to give an extension on the first seat deposit date?

Hey, did people get their Financial Aid information this week? I saw in the Admitted Students Newsletter from a week or two ago that it was supposed to arrive "on or around April 5th." I have not received mine and am wondering if this is something I should call about on Monday morning?

Are you talking about the scholarship info they email out, or something different that details your loan amounts and such?LST wrote:I have had access to the digital version of my award letter since mid-last week, but have not received a physical version as of yet.
