You take a shuttle bus purely for AU kids from the metro stop to the law school. When you walk out of the metro stop, the shuttle stop is right in front of you.mmmbop wrote:how do people get to the law school? it seems like the metro stop is really far away

Re: American c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
First Post...
Anyone thinking of bringing their car to DC? I know there is public transportation but does anyone know about parking? I am bringing my car because I do not want to sell it or have it sit all year. I have heard parking in DC requires a zone permit and/or paying over $100 a month for a parking place if you don't want to spend 20 minutes looking for a space.
Also does anyone know what an average person spends on train/bus fare in a month. In NYC for example, an unlimited monthly pass is like $104 but DC doesn't have monthly passes. So what do people typically spend. (I know it depends on how far you go, but ballpark figures, how much?)
I'm thinking about living right near the WCL building just because 1L is going to be non-stop studying and class. Then maybe move next summer closer to the action. Anyone else planning on doing that?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I haven't lived in DC in 16 years, so take this with a grain of salt.SoPoliticallySavvy wrote:First Post...

Up in that part of DC, I think you'd be well served to have a car. I used to live down in Georgetown area (summer) and the hill (rest of the time) where I didn't really need my car that much, but those areas are a bit more compact. That said, it really depends on where you find to live there. You may find the perfect place with good walk/bike/public transportation options to the places you need to go (school, grocery, bar), in which case you can ditch the car. Or you may find a place with parking (they exist) that might not be as convenient to things.
Again, note the gap in time here, but I will say that in my brief time in DC (a little over a year), I got rear-ended badly, had my transition go out in a rough part of town, had my car stolen (within a 15 minute time frame -- I carried a load of groceries up, put them away, went back to go out to a friend's in the country and it was gone), and had my replacement car sideswiped the first week I got it.
On the other question, I was up there last week and was surprised to see how high the rail fares have gotten, especially the rush hour fares.

Congrats! Hopefully you're right and won't run a lean class size this year due to the low applicant numbers. They seem to be accepting off the waitlist in waves at American, so just hold on tight and wait for your time to come!

Any current WCL students with cars in DC out there?
If so, how do you find parking around campus? How is parking where you live?
Would you advise living in a certain area if I am going to have a car in DC?
I'm trying to avoid renting a parking space. Is there free parking around the area you live??
thanks again guys/gals

^^Were you accepted for the PT or FT program?
I received an email this morning asking about my continued interest in the part-time program. I really would prefer to attend FT so I'm not sure what I should do... Is the PT worth it? Or should I apply again next year (I have been studying for LSAT retake in June).... Any thoughts are appreciated!

I applied only for part-time program. I work full-time.

No $$ only loans. Need-based grants are only for full-time students. I cant afford. Withdraw. Good luck to all on waiting list.

For those who got in off the WL this morning, are you FT or PT?
