....lol. who are you talking to?RaiderBlue17 wrote:Touring this Thursday at 9:30 AM.. Im from the area but this is my first tour so I will be asking LOTS of questions and hopefully honest answers will prevail.
P.S. UTK you dont' have to SELL ME, you just have to be honest about WHY I should attend including Pros & Cons... YES all schools have cons people, no denying it.

Doesn't matter man, whomever it is, i will just ask the questions that im sure they all hear ALL THE TIME... Saying a school doesn't have to sell you is a compliment, it means im already generally interested for what they provide to me.
All I want from any school is simply a straight shooter. We can't all be living on fantasy island as some recruiters pretend.

While you're there, tell them to make a final decision on my application.

I am not sure yet if I will be able to make it due to my work schedule. I think I will just pay my deposit now. Does anyone know if you can pay online, or do you just mail them a check?

You bet. What are the top three reasons they should say yes to the jeanster? Should I ask nicely or go right to the hard sell? I'm thinking hard sell. Who's with me for a little Good Cop / Bad Cop?jeanster wrote:While you're there, tell them to make a final decision on my application.

Nothing yet. They say I have to wait until May to start hearing anything. I was waitlisted at Maryland today, but I think I would take Tennessee over Maryland anyways. I will mail the check in today. Why not. haha

Congratulations on your decision and I hope you can swing Law Preview Day. Indiana's too flat, cold, and ugly anyway.h2oplyer7 wrote:Nothing yet. I'm sure you can mail a check, but I have issues with my money going through the mail, so I'm waiting to hear back about how to pay online. Contact Janet Hatcher about it. She's really nice (or at least she seems so in emails )h2oplyer7 wrote:I am not sure yet if I will be able to make it due to my work schedule. I think I will just pay my deposit now. Ms. Janet Hatcher is SO SO SO nice, she spoke to me recently and I have NOTHING but glowing reviews for her willingness to answer any and ALL questions. She also refers to 'that other law school in Tennessee.' Ha ha ha Competition is vibrant at UTK, maybe not as much on the football field but certainly at the law school!

I feel like every person on staff that I have met is very nice. And also very honest. They even released employment information, even though it shows a downward trend. I don't think you'll have any problems getting honesty from them. Its just seems like a great environment to be in and I'm so excited about going there in August!

Re: University of Tennessee applying for fall 2012
Sorry for the delay guys but here are my thoughts on UTK: I went on a personal visit and learned ALOT..
UTK is in their mind, the top law school in the state, this means that they believe they own Tennessee and that Vandy kids leave the state. Now I don't know if that's true as I don't have Vandy info, but that's a great start to any law school.
I was a bit disappointed in my tour guide, he was a fellow undergrad student with me, BUT he wanted to attend UTK and only applied in-state, while I have applied all over the USA. This made deciding between other schools a bit more difficult. Also he was a 1L so he didn't know much regarding the clinicals and such.
The clinicals at UTK are top notch, again this is what I've been told, that's great as the more you can put on your resume the better. The building itself is 4 storys and very pretty it's right across from the student union which is being either rebuilt or renovated... Either way one stop shop.
Parking is available in UTK lots or a private lot right next to the school the private lot costs more, but it will ONLY be your spot, so that's nice.
The library is great, lots of materials and study areas. The class is looking to be 150 people so that's LESS than this year's 1L class. Also the financial aid adviser ESTIMATED that in-state tuition would be 17K. UTK says it was rated best value, my tour guide didn't know where in the list it was, as he and the placement guide couldn't decide LOL.
The career placement office was a WEE BIT disappointing. To me a career shouldn't come down to 'resume writing' but rather connections made, the former was a BIG point made by the staff. UTK has a huge alumni pool and they easily passed out information about last year's class so they had nothing to hide.
Overall it was a VERY productive visit, ANYBODY who visits UTK and chooses to attend I would say is making a fine choice. Good luck to ALL official visitors on the 30th of March.

Re: University of Tennessee applying for fall 2012
Great review Raider! Lots of good info!!!
I am excited to visit the school now. Where else did you apply? Like you I applied all over the country. I am leaning toward UTK. The school will be free for me with the GI Bill, but so are a lot of other schools I applied to. Can you tell us how the school compared to other schools you visited?
So are you leaning toward UTK? If not, where?

Re: University of Tennessee applying for fall 2012
So I've been accepted to the following: Denver, SLU, UTK, W&L, S. Carolina, Memphis,
Waitlisted at Colorado
I was Rejected at Wake
and am waiting for UNC, Alabama, and SMU
UTK was my first visit, BUT it was a pretty productive one. I've heard that NO school is worth sticker price, but I'm not taking that advice to heart until I visit it, so W&L didn't offer me any money, but a great career can easily trump saving money. I will be visiting SLU, W&L and DU mid March to beginning of April. The other schools have ALL offered me significant scholarships so I need to decide, where do I want to live for the forseeable future, and which place can help me get employed.
Im not one to worry about rankings, or asthetics, the number one priority for me is employment, I don't want to be 30 with a JD and working as a waiter... Wow that's a sad thought... LOL
If I had to rank em as of today, I'd be DU, UTK, SLU, and W&L
P.S. UNC is my dream school and not hearing from them is driving me crazy.

Re: University of Tennessee applying for fall 2012
Hey Guys,
I was accepted to UTK in Jan. and cannot wait to see everyone on the 30th. Like many of you, I have to move, and find a place in Knoxville. I am currently looking into West Knoxville for apartments, and schools for my kids. I am an older fart than most- 27 (on the 18th). I am a cuban american fat military veteran, ha, and 6'4". I have visited the law school and love it! I was accepted to some higher ranked schools, but the attention to detail at UTK sold me as the community I want to encompass my Law School experience. The only thing I have to complain about is the merchandise. I have been waiting a long time to fulfill my law school dream and I want to deck out in UTK Law stuff! The "main" bookstore only holds a vinyl decal (which I ended up messing up on my car- so crooked!). As a fat guy, I worry that 2XL maybe in reduced supply, so if you see a fat guy in a little shirt, its me; nothing is going to stop me from sporting my new school proudly!
Talk later,
Daniel
(PS. What type of law are you looking to practice?)
