The UF thread was quite active last cycle, I thought I would get one going for those of us applying for 2012.

I live in Gainesville and can help answer any questions you have about the town.

Good luck to you all!

I'm sorry LSAT, I thought that when I made the new thread it may make last year's contributor's nostalgic :( But thanks for being willing to answer questions.

Hi Neeko! good luck!

UMiami, good luck to you, too!

LSAT, how are you liking everything so far?

I actually really like all of my classes. Everyone is super helpful and it's not too stressful of an environment. That being said, I definitely felt in WAY over my head the first couple of days haha

Could say the same about you. Good thing I like you.

P.S. are you stalking me?

Edit: As a word of advice, stay far away from FeelTheHeat. He's the "hide the library book" type

Guys quick question - I live in Gainesville and have a few questions for UF about clarifying some of the stuff in the C+F section. Would you call the admissions office, email them, or make an appointment to go in and ask?

Either one will do. I had a few things to take care of myself regarding C&F and was able to get it fixed over the phone. I believe it's Michelle Adorno you speak to; she is fantastic.

Just learned this today, but apparently the C&F section is different this year than it was in previous years. You guys have five questions or something right? Regardless, I'd definitely go talk to Michelle Adorno. She is one of the most approachable people I have ever met and is absolutely amazing.

Unless your question is simple (mine was about a speeding ticket that was "minor" but the fee was hefty because of court costs/some counties in Florida like to gouge you. I called the office and the receptionist was able to answer the question for me.) In that case, I would just call or email someone in Admissions.

+1

And just a suggestion - if you have some time and you're close to Gainesville, you should come visit and ask questions. I know from personal experience that UF genuinely cares about the environment their law students enter into, and they also want to make sure that the students they're accepting will be a good fit. They want you to love it here as much as they do, and really encourage putting a face with your application.

I would also recommend writing the suggested diversity statement, even if you're not diverse in a traditional sense. You might stand out - in a good way - more than you think! :)

There are quite a few current UF students on TLS, so feel free to PM us if you have questions about UF or the process in general.

UMiami: First off, it's nice to see a fellow Cane on here. Secondly, how do you like Gainesville coming from Miami/Coral Gables? I've been to Gainesville plenty of times but obviously living there is quite different than visits (I would assume anyways)

THE_U-I have to admit that when I first moved to Gainesville I hated it! I graduated from Miami in 2005 and moved here to be with my boyfriend (now husband). I hated how everything was focused around UF, everything closed early, there was no city. It was different for me I think because I didn't move here for school, so I didn't really meet a lot of people. After a while, I really grew to like it here, and now I love living here. Downtown Gainesville has really changed for the better- nicer restaurants and bars, less collegy feeling. I've found places I like to go, things I like to do, and people I like. Though- things will always be painted orange and blue, gag.

Btw, did you see Miami (undergrad) moved up 9 spots to #38 in the USNWR Best Colleges Rankings.
Go 'Canes!

Wow, that's pretty much like my situation. Aside from being the best school in FL, I am also applying there to be with my g/f. But yeah, I could see a lot of the stuff you are saying just from visits. Doesn't sound too bad, though. I think I will be alright, other than everything being orange and blue. I feel like a college town setting might be refreshing after living in Miami for 4 years.

Yeah I saw that we moved up to #38. Shalala's done a ridiculous job. Crazy how she's moved the school up 30 spots in 10 years. Sucks that the law school seems to be lagging behind everything else.

How much harder is it to get in out of state?

It's not any harder. I was an out of state applicant with an LSAT at median and a GPA at the 75th percentile and I got in with $. They're mostly concerned with your numbers, but they look closely at the personal statement as well. I would include something in your statement about why you want to attend UF/practice law in Florida.

I was going to ask this. How much of my PS should include this? I already have my PS pretty much done so I would just have to add this in. Likely my LSAT score is going to by on the lower end but my GPA should be solid (around 3.7), so I would assume this could be a plus for my situation?
