If you don't know Chicago neighborhoods, start with gold coast/ Lincoln park if you want to be super close to campus. West burbs are cheaper and still nice. Wrigleyville will be loud all the time so if you are cool with that it is a great area. Don't go south city/hyde park. You will hate it
Also, the school is in Streeterville, so that's the closest of options. :-) Other places my classmates live include South Loop, Wicker Park, and Uptown. Some live in Andersonville (lesbian mecca) or Boystown (you get three guesses).

It's a fun place for fun, but I wouldn't want to live right on the main drag (:-)), and other places in lakeview are either crappy or pricey.. Definitely worth at least a few visits. There is a gay cowboy bar.

I know this is just the paranoia that has come from the obsessive waiting talking, but can everyone just reassure me that there is no way I will get into Northwestern ED WITHOUT the $50K scholly? I'm having nightmares about getting in ED and having to go but also having to pay full tuition.

If you get deferred to the RD pool you won't be required to attend Northwestern. Consider yourself reassured.

A legitimate worry but Tiago is right. If you're deferred into RD and then accepted, you'll be released of your ED contract.

I love that going to Northwestern at sticker can be considered a problem. Oh, TLS. How you've changed us all.

Also, catmo, you won't get accepted ED without the $$. All ED students will get the $150k, lucky bastards.

Thanks, everyone. I knew this, but I can't have it confirmed too many times.

And JDizzle, I know I can take out loans, but Northwestern at sticker is a problem if I have a scholarship at UMich. Not trying to sound entitled. I'm just trying to be in as little debt as possible.

Lies! You may have to search harder but my place is beautiful AND cheap - renting from individual Condo owners has its benefits.

Oh, yea I completely understand. I feel absolutely the same way. My post was more self reflection than anything else lol. I didn't mean to be critical and you definitely didn't sound entitled at all. :D

JDizzle--did you clear your alt with the mods? I assume so but I just wanted to ask because otherwise you might get banned for alting because they don't know that you're not trying to be an alt-troll or something

And, soj--the next time we're both in Chicago, we are DEFINITELY going to boystown. (:!!!

Anyone have any living recommendations for a couple with a medium sized dog?

Looking for:
Relatively inexpensive
Small yard or near a dog park/fenced in field
Don't mind sacrificing close proximity to NU for something a little bigger/cheaper (as long a it's near public transit)

Thanks

I have nightmares about this though I know accepted ED = $150K scholly.

Anyone know how many people NU normally accepts ED? Is it even possible to admit the same number of people and offer them all $150k? I know the endowment's large, but the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think I'm screwed.

FWIW, this is what I think will happen:

NU will admit the same # of people they typically offer full rides via ED

They will reject the people they're not interested in.

Splitters & people who would usually get in ED will be held for RD and then either WL, A, or R. People with full-ride-worthy stats applying RD will be accepted without a full-ride (but possibly with some money). Depending on the turnout for the ED applicants, this may/may not be more competitive than the normal ED process and RD process for splitters.

What were your numbers again, e?
