No kidding! Probably going to have to wait until March-April to here anything back. I've got a very slim shot at being accepted, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Yeah, I'm already on the third draft of mine. Took me a while to come up with something, but I think it's starting to come together

I'd try to argue with you, but I'm too jealous of your almost definite future admission to HLS to bother

Damn you and your 3.9

same here. i've explained the topic to friends, but the informal explanation alone tends to exceed 250 words.

If we could write this in German, then you could string several words together to lower that word count

Well, it's technically a little lower than that, but TLS doesn't give figures out to the hundredths place, so I had to round up.

Nice, cool to see a twin. I'm at a 3.77 from a large public and I'm Cuban, which I hope to God Harvard decides is enough of a boost to ignore my weaksauce GPA lol. Goodluck to the both of us. Looking forward to following your cycle.

No chance in hell of me getting in, but I really want to write the 250 so I might as well apply.

I'll be applying too. Still working on my PS so I've only gotten so far as a vague idea for my 250.

Yeah, my GPA is exactly 3.8. But I am not a URM at all so I have no boost. I'm not holding out for HYS but will try

Is it true that it doesn't really matter when in the cycle you apply to Yale? I am doing a pretty cool internship during the Fall and I thought I'd write my 250 about it, but as a result I probably wouldn't be able to submit my app until November or December...

Yes, Yale doesn't have rolling admissions so you (theoretically) have the same chance of acceptance anytime during the cycle.

Anyone want to comment on my Yale 250 ideas? I am still going back and forth with just writing something purely academic.
My PS is about my values, my evolution in my interests spurred by career experiences, and finally my appreciation for the difficulties in crafting laws that help realize widely held social values. In large part it is trying to 1) show the qualities I've developed that will help me be successful in law school and a legal career, and 2) explain why I am leaving a happy, successful career to go to law school now.
I'm a non-trad with some interesting work experience. I don't go into the details in the PS, just what has inspired me/what I have learned from it that motivates me to go to law school. I really don't mention my education except in passing as a means to an ends, though I've pursued a Master's and PhD at solid UK universities.
Sooo....my dilemma is wrestling with 2 subject choices:
- Academic -
OR
- I wrote a 250 putting them in my shoes for a single decision I had to make, that is really representative of the sort of high-pressure, high-risk environment I have been working in.
What do you all think? Play it semi-safe with the academic topic or roll the dice with the more creative 250 that gives them a new window into who I am/what sets me apart from other academically-talented candidates?
I can share the academic one when I write it, but I really can't share the other. I apologize for having to just give you a description and ask for your opinion.

It sounds to me like the second one is the better option if you can write a version that makes you happy. They'll know your academic prowess from the rest and they'll be able to see how you can perform in a high stakes environment with the second topic. On the other hand, if you can't come up with a version you like, go safe.
I've been trying to come up with something non-academic for a few weeks now and every topic I start writing on just seems stupid, so I'm leaning more and more toward briefly explaining an argument I've made in metaethics.

I really like the subject of metaethics, so to me it sounds like an interesting topic, and I actually considered a 250 on something of the sort, but I went more personal since my PS is already a lot more about me academically.
I'd just say write several 250s and continue working with them and swapping them until you find one that you like, I'm working on a topic that is far from perfect but as I continued to write different drafts it was the one that stuck with me and appealed to me the most. Still have a lot of work to do on it though..
