There seems to be quite a few of us.. hundreds even. I feel a new thread is appropriate to discuss things strictly regarding the UNC Law 2011 waitlist. Who's with me?

If it helps, I was waitlisted and withdrew. I was just ready to move on with my preparations for law school. Best of luck to you all!

sent my LOCI the other day. now the waiting game really begins.

To those sending LOCIs, are you addressing the letter to UNC School of Law Admissions or to Dean States? Does it even matter?

161, 3.25 overall undergrad GPA, 2 years work experience in DC.

not sure how closely everyone read the wait list e-mail but the following really stood out to me:

We reserve the right to deny applicants from the waitlist in the summer after an assessment of the applicant’s likelihood of admission.

so that basically means they can send me an e-mail at any time saying "just kidding, we don't want you at all", right? That statement and the fact that most everyone on TLS who applied and didn't get in was waitlisted really solidifies in my mind that they just missed their deadline or something like that.

Not exactly exemplary behavior from a school. I thought schools valued how many acceptances they extended versus how many of those acceptanced actually enrolled? They sure are making that hard for those of us on the waitlist. If I get a call in July, I will have already moved to Chicago to attend another school and certainly won't turn around for UNC just because they couldn't get their act together.

i wrote my letter in a similar fashion to my personal statement. i did not address it to anyone in particular since i have no idea who, if anyone, will be reading it.

i saw the statement about denying waitlist applicants but i took it as more of a "we'll let you know you're not getting in as soon as we know you're not getting in." who knows though? i like to cling to the phrase that says "we do not wish to deny you admission as long as there is some reasonable possibility of admission this year."

Does anyone know when the deposit deadlines are? I think some of them may have been pushed back to later dates. I'm trying to get an idea when we might see some WL movement.

According to the best LOCI advice thread on this board (link below), it is acceptable to address your LOCI to the person who's name appears on the waitlist letter. Since that was Dean States, I am sure it is perfectly acceptable to address it to him. I am also sure the admissions office is getting/gets flooded with LOCI's and the staff probably pulls the incoming letters to add to their respective files. That said, if you are going to be given serious consideration, I would bet that Dean States will be reading it at some point.

Planning on writing mine over the weekend. Ideally I would have done it sooner, but work is out of control and I'm not getting home till around the time the late local news starts these days...

Has anyone sent in an updated/expanded resume or other materials? Or is everyone just focusing on LOCIs?

I would say it's good to do that. Set up an appoinment with someone in admissions and i'm sure they'll let you sit through a class. Shows you are really interested in the school. But that's just my opinion.

Any news/updates to report? Also, did anyone get any confirmation from admissions that they received your LOCI?

New to posting to this forum but not new to reading it. I am on the waitlist. I called the admissions office on Wednesday to confirm that my LOCI had been received (I sent it via regular mail). The woman who I talked to said that it had been. I also asked when to expect movement on the waitlist. She said after the second deposit is due, June 13th. Hope this helps.

i got an email the following day saying they had received my letter and it had been added to my file.
