checking in too, don't know if I'm special preferred or regular preferred. I'm just me.

I was placed in the 'special group' of the preferred waiting list today by email. I just sent them an email to withdraw my app from consideration. Good luck to those of you who are hoping to move off the WL!!

Special preferred here I feel like there are a lot of us on TLS

can we come to some sort of consensus on what differentiates preferred from special preferred...thanks.

From glancing at stalking last year's WL thread, it looks like some people were told that they would receive an update by a certain date. Did anyone's email have a similar deadline? Mine just says early May, if not before.

Joining the special preferred--I emailed them to confirm I wanted to stay on the wl and got this back:

"Although every year is different, typically nothing happens on the waitlist until we start approaching deposit deadlines. The deposits let us know whether there will be some wiggle room in the class. Our first deposit is due May 2nd and the second June 1st so, if you remain interested, just before those deposit deadlines it’s always good to get in touch with us to let us know that you want to be considered if spaces become available. "

So it sounds like just send in the loci before May 2nd?

I don't get it. Special preferred waitlist, 170, 3.9X.

I applied late, but I got into a much higher ranked school notorious for its waitlist after just 3 weeks, so I don't think my application is that bad. I don't think it's YP because I'm right in the middle of the green on LSN.

Also, on LSN last year, it seems a lot of people who made mistakes on their apps or applied late and got shut out of schools that their numbers should have gotten them into nevertheless got into GULC. I don't get this at all.

I guess applying mid January = unpredictable cycle. Not sure whether to withdraw or not.

I dunno. It's possible someone who read your PS or resume or something just got a bad vibe and it bumped you to the waitlist. Obviously you were a really borderline decision as you got the special preferred waitlist (along with a lot of people with far superior numbers).

If you still want to go to Georgetown, stay on. If you wouldn't go to Georgetown if accepted, withdraw.

Regular waitlist here. Although I was a PT ED'er who got a job in DC after the WL, and retook. I was at a 3.7/165 so I'm thinking a 167+ should be good enough to get me in and a 169+ would be auto-off waitlist... (?)

It'll be a long wait until May. Boo!

Preferred waitlist here. My notice mentioned that some positions may become available as late as the day of registration and to keep them updated on my deadlines and status. Anyone else's read as such?

I'd say its YP, just because you're in the middle on LSP doesn't mean all that much. Also since there are what like 20% less applicants this year all the schools know their numbers are going down so I think a lot of them are trying to YP to make sure their yield rate is still solid.

Explain... how do you know applications dropped by 20%? That's not at all what I expected...

If it's anything like last year, most of you on the SPWL will probably end up getting in.
