Have some ties to Texas... prefer the East Coast (but fixated on that)... but honestly, not too particular. Not interested in environmental law or tax law, but otherwise a bit of an open book. I more was hoping for a comparison of offers on their own merits. What is the better offer in and of itself. Sorry no better details.

I'd take UT without thinking about it. This is especially true if you want to, or are willing to, settle in Texas. UT is a regional powerhouse with excellent faculty (certainly better faculty than many of the lower t14). The small difference in placement is not worth the six-figure debt (once you factor in interest), IMO.

Numbers are 3.65 (not highly touted undergrad by any means... two years comm college, two years weak in-state... worked three jobs to help family out and was homeless during comm college so that killed the numbers there... 3.83 at the university) and 174 LSAT (on a retake... 163 first go around). So, good numbers, but the retake steals a bit of the fire out of the 174.

I also don't qualify for much in need based aid as my family received some back pay from the VA for my father's service related injury, but they will not be contributing anything because they are a bit nutty. Honestly. That may not be much use, but I figured I would throw that in there.

You will get either 67.5k or 54k from michigan. I got 54k with a 3.49/173

Beautiful... given that amount, would you suggest Michigan? I would naturally be leaning towards Michigan with that offer on the table, but am open to insights.

If Michigan is at sticker, then I vote Texas. But it sounds like you'll get a good scholly to Michigan, and if that is the case, I vote Michigan.

Depends what you want. Michigan may give you more flexibility location wise. If you are 100% sure you'd be happy living in texas I would go there. If not I would go to michigan. That is assuming you get the money that you most likely will. Also you have to like the school so visit and see where you fit best. If you just got into umich which I assume you did recently you should have your offer within the next couple weeks.

Texas. even if they give you tons of cash at Mich. I personally don't like TX but It is the king of it's market. Houston and Dallas are owned by UT and those two markets are almost as big as NY when combined but there is no where near the competition. UT basically guarantees you a legal job and Mich doesn't. Where are you going to work in MI, detroit, lansing? other than that you'll be competing with the entire t14 and though Mich is a great school, it's no HYS and Even CCN are thought of more highly.

If you want a job, go to texas.

nah merit based. Mich schollys have a stipulation that you are no longer eligible for need aid once you get a merit offer.

Look into Michigan scholly. I would go Michigan if you got 50K or more a year with similar GPA requirements.

If we are talking sticker though, I would totally go UT.

Numbers hovering around medians (i.e. Michigan-mediocre stats) will typically yield 10k per year. Michigan solid numbers (think 169/170 +3.7 GPA) tend to bring in 15k per year offers. Numbers at/around 75th percentile will result in 22.5k per year (basically a half tuition scholarship).

I forget if there's a 18k per year range. I think there likely is.

They really are quite formulaic with their aid.
