Last minute ED Forum

I applied in November and since applying I've become more and more sure that I want to attend UVA. I'm considering sending in an ED form. My question is, does this look desperate? Do they frown upon a late ED form? Finally, does it make THAT big a difference for UVA?

Would it be a bad idea to call admissions and ask some of these questions?

No, someone switched from RD to ED last week and was promptly accepted.
