Coconut Grove looks so close. In fact, it looks like you could get their mostly through back streets and such. Is Miami traffic really bad enough to make a trip of 2-3 miles miserable? I'm basing this mostly off of Google Earth. Also, I've heard that Red Road Commons is full of undergrads and sort of a party scene. I've seen some roommate ads on craigslist in Coral Gables; I was thinking the best route to take might be a roommate in a private house or apartment building a little removed from campus, but still a 5 minute drive to campus.SixStrings11 wrote:I live right across the street from the Miami campus right now. It's not cheap. If money isn't an issue for you and you want to live close look into The Cloisters and Red Road Commons. You can walk to campus from either of those and they're both relatively nice.Justathought wrote: On a more serious note, does anyone have any housing suggestions? I want to live very close, so I was thinking of finding something decent in Coral Gables. I've heard Coconut Grove is also nice, but is it too far away? I really want a 10 minute commute, max.
Coconut Grove is a quick drive, but with US1 traffic it can get a little irritating. But that area is also really nice depending on where you go. I also knew people that lived there and went to the Law School, so people definitely do that.
Housing is a huge issue of me though if I go to Miami. I don't want to stay in my apartment because the cost just keeps going up every year and it's getting ridiculous..

Anybody paid seat deposits yet? I might get all the way to the 15th, as I'm still trying to wait/weigh fsu out...

You're right. You could probably just do back streets from the Grove. Don't underestimate US1 traffic though. A drive that should take me 5 minutes sometimes takes me about 20. Avoid US1, and you should be ok.Justathought wrote:Coconut Grove looks so close. In fact, it looks like you could get their mostly through back streets and such. Officially withdrew today. I hope someone gets my scholly money. I'm so sad to be leaving Miami Beach. My family loves it here.

Is anyone else as frustrated about the lack of communication from UM? All other schools send emails and advertise why you should go there.. miami is m.i.a.

Should I bother sending a LOCI to Miami? If any of you have, where did you send it?
Thanks

Did anyone participate in the housing chat discussion? I was wondering if they mentioned anything about the roommate referral service.

So with April 15th coming up fast and no word from either FSU or UF, I guess I'm gonna go ahead and submit my seat deposit. Not the worst thing in the world for me, but it's just a pretty expensive seat deposit to pay when you're not even completely sure..

I'll be paying my deposit tomorrow. Still no final decisions for me yet, unfortunately... but I guess it'll be nice to have my foot in the door somewhere as I wait for the last few schools to get back to me.
