Desperation....how to get off a waitlist.

Post by SEATTLEITE188 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 12:29 pm

This is a desperation post, but I am wondering if any of you know of any ideas of how to convince an admissions commitee to pull you off the waitlist at the last minute. I bet there is nothing I can do, but at this point, I would be wiling to TRY anything.....I would be willing to call the admissions director and literally say anything. If any of you have ever thought about what you can say in a last ditch attempt, please share! HAHAHA.....

Then you answered your own question. You aren't getting off in all likelihood. I'm sure your next best school is almost as good.

Have you shot them an email telling them that you would drop all other offers and attend if they admitted you? That's what they want to hear. Be sure you are ready to make that commitment of course, but it seems like you are.

Fill out the email with details about why you think they are the best school for you.

Still, you will probably have to apply next year if you want to go.

Yeah, I have already done that, plus several LOCIs through the mail and an additional letter of rec. Do you think I should call the admissions director and re-iterate my passion for attending over the phone? Or do you think that would just be more of an annoyance?

Honestly, how much can it hurt at this point? More than likely, they aren't pulling from WL anymore so you might as well give it a shot.

The only sure way to get off a waitlist is to withdraw.

you could email them and tell them that you want to go to the school so badly, that you would accept a deferred admission to the school. And then they would for certain realize how serious you are about the school. Of course they may grant that wish, and then you'd have to decide if you want to take a year off (I took/am taking the year off).

I actually like that idea alot. Do you think it would be better to email it or call? I am not sure how smoothly it will come out over the phone.....suggestions?

As long as you have the email address of the dean of admissions (so you know someone important is reading it), i think an email would be fine. That way you can take some time to think about exactly what you want to say and how you want to say it. If they take it seriously, they could end up calling you, and then you might have to be prepared to talk about it. I was in constant email communication with the dean of admissions at Penn, and she was always very prompt and personal in her responses, so I think email would be fine. Good luck!

Looks like from your previous posts that the school you are trying/waiting for is UNLV. Considering it is ranked 78, I would retake the LSAT and try for a better school than hold out for this one.

#1) covert ops to get a list of admitted students
#2) shady activity that results in admitted students having accidents which cause them to withdraw.
#3) admission
