Check the last few years' worth of applicants at LSN. it looks like someone this year was WL with a 162/3.85, but that could have been a YP...? I would say you probably have a good chance of getting in (possibly with $), too.
Id say it could have been YP, also could have been the late app... Getting apps in early (IMO) helps a lot.

I've been following this thread for a while now, figured I'd chime in.
I have a 163/3.7 and applied ED. I was held for further review and then WL.....I'm still waiting....
Unfortunately I thought I had pretty good chances and SMU was my first choice, so needless to say I was pretty upset. Anyway, I think SMU is trying to raise standards a bit, it's getting tougher and tougher!

Hmm surprising. Did you send LOCI? I wont be applying until next cycle, but a friend of mine got in with numbers much lower than yours... I agree, it seems that SMU is trying to make a move up in rankings.

I've been lurking on the forums for quite a bit and it seems that several of seem to think that SMU is trying to raise its medians for the coming cycle. Is this correct?
I've been looking at LSN and it seems that pretty much everyone with a 164 was admitted but I can't help but be worried with my 164/3.45. I'm torn between retaking or submitting my apps on the first possible day and am unsure as to which would be the smarter option. Any advice?

I think it should be inferred that they are raising their LSAT median to 165.

I plan on applying with a 3.55 (probably will be a 3.58 or 3.6 by the time I actually apply) and a 163. I thought this was solid for SMU but apparently not? Should I retake or should I just take my chances?
My major GPA is a 3.9 if that makes any difference.

I'd retake if I were you. I applied near the end of December during my cycle (09-10), and was admitted during the second round of admission decisions at the end of February.
Also, bartleby is credited. The adding a few points to your score will only increase your chances of landing a scholarship.

I applied in November with a 164/3.5 and I'm still on the waitlist. I even sent in a LOCI in March. Maybe you have a better chance if you apply earlier than I did but I suggest retaking if you're really set on SMU.

Yeah I sent LOCI in late May, and I'm even a legacy! My dad is an SMU law grad '97
Looks like Baylor for me in the fall.

Retake, retake, retake. Both your GPA and LSAT are under SMU medians, so unless you're a URM, you need to retake. I had a lower GPA and a 166 and got 76k.

All that matters is your LSAC GPA

For anyone doubting if SMU is trying to raise medians, these are better numbers than me and I got money at SMU.
I'm thinking next cycle the minimum will be a 165.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your numbers and when did you apply?

Originally they said June 15, then I talked to someone (probs a student worker) who said by the end of June. Now Pony Tracks says check back after July 5. Siiiiiiiiiiiigh...everyone else I know at other schools has already gotten their award finalized.
SMU's financial aid office is the worst. No joke.

i'm thinking 90% chance that 165 + early application is still auto admit at SMU w/ a little over half scholarship. can't see them moving the median to 166, or back down to 163/4.

3.2 / 164. I applied ED (or EA, really, but they call it ED).

I got a missed call from a 214 number earlier and got really excited that it might be SMU, but nope, it was some random girl I don't know. I don't even live in Dallas, wtf???

I wouldn't put too much stock in transfer rumors. I don't think it's very likely that Inter lets him go. He's on contract for 3 more seasons with them.
