How to APPEAL Rejection w/New LSAT Score?

In an attempt to get off Columbia's waitlist/reserve, I took the June LSAT. Although I expressed interest in their programs, visited the campus, met with an admissions officer, I was let go in the first round. And I just got the score today.. 177.

How do I appeal this? How do I appeal other schools, which straight-out rejected me months ago?

My background: I took the first LSAT in Oct 2008, got a 164. I took my second LSAT in June 2009, got a 168. GPA is 3.64 at UCSD, had extensive work experience in a small law firm for a year and a half, and since I sent in my applications I traveled for two months and sat home twiddling my thumbs since then.

I've been accepted into a T-15 school with very little scholarship money, can I use that as leverage at all to get more money? I've already appealed once.

I'm hoping this 177 can get me higher up on the rankings ladder. And if not, does it get me anything if I decide to transfer?

The T15 that took you might give you more money if you ask for it.

But odds are you are better off applying next cycle for the class of 2014.

This reads credited.

If you can't convince a T6 to change its mind (I've never heard of 'reconsidered' apps, but maybe it happens?), you should reapply next year. That LSAT is baller.

They'll probably just have him wait until next year. CLS already filled its 2013 class.

I would hate to wait another year since I've already been waiting two years since I graduated in 2008.. and the fact that I haven't really done anything new the past year + combo of three scores worries me about "guaranteed" ins at T-5.

Are you in at Cornell, UCLA, Texas or Vandy? and how much money are you getting.

Early application with 177/3.6 I would bet you get in everywhere save HYS.

do what DF says, its credited.

I understand that you dont want to wait another year, but that might be your best option. With your numbers you should definitely get a good look by some of the top programs. Apply EA to Columbia and you should have a really good shot.

What does credited mean?

Cornell, $5k a year.

Ask for more money, but I doubt they'll give you anything good.

I take it that we are talking about UCLA (only those in the 15th-ranked school talk about the T15). Really, you can do better, in fact, you can do much better. Even if you appealed the rejection, you would be paying sticker. Waiting a year for the better job prospects (because of the improved economy) and the better school is a great choice.

Desert Fox's advice is excellent in my opinion. If you want to attend law school this fall, then request more money from your Top 15 acceptance; otherwise, you are golden for the next application cycle.
If you want to "reason" with Columbia, just tell them that you messed up your first two LSATs & that they messed up by not taking you from the waitlist.

As always, DF is 100% correct. Do this, do NOT waste that LSAT. Cornell is great and all but the jump from a top 15 to a top 5 is MASSIVE. Plus if you apply early you are going to reap huge rewards.

It depends ultimately what you want to do, but there is NO WAY you will do better this cycle than you will next cycle, thus you must reapply.

Honestly the difference in Cornell--->Columbia is worth a year. I don't care how sick of working/time off from school you are. Take a year off, go to a top 5 law school and pwn for the rest of your life.

if columbia took you off in the first round, then you're not going there in the fall 2010. Re apply to the schools this october, plus some higher ranked ones. Not only will you have a better cycle ( in regards to admits) but you are also going to get more money thrown your way.

To fill in the time, volunteer, work a job somewhere or anywhere and enjoy life

Join the Peace Corp. I'll all but guarantee you get into every law school you apply to, and with some big scholarships, 2 years from now.

I would ask the T15 for more money if you can convince them that you're considering better schools if they don't fork over the dough.
