If a student transfers out of a law school offering merit aid/scholarship money, does anyone know if he/she is expected to repay the scholarship award applied to 1L?

Assuming you went to the school for 1L, you shouldn't have to repay it. Unless for some reason the award was contingent on 3-year attendance (though I've never heard of anything like that).
