No to a WL and reapplying

Anyone have any thoughts/comments on removing oneself from a waitlist and reapplying for next year? Better to say no thanks and reapply before an answer or better to see what they say and then say no? C None of the Above?

Why would you decline to go on the waitlist if you will apply next year?

My current work situation (need to say yes to something good for the meantime that would pass me by by the time the end of the WL period passes).

So you wouldn't accept if admitted today?

If it's a school you would like to attend next year, you may want to wait it out. First, there's the possibility of getting a deferral if you get in, or asking for deferred acceptance, which would completely negate having to apply again (and the chances associated with that). Also, some schools give fee waivers for the next application year to those that remained on the waitlist until the end (i.e. weren't cut) but didn't get in. That could save some money, with little loss on your end...

The school specifies no deferrals on the WL. If there were, I'd wait it out in a heartbeat. I just don't want to say no and then show up in a pile in 2 months. Figure it's more graceful to bow out and take my chances next year.

They won't care, just withdraw now, tell them you working for a year but will be reapplying next year and your still SUPER EXCITED :D :D :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to attend school-X someday. Some BS like that will do just fine.

This very day? Yes. BUT... the earliest admits won't be for another 3 weeks. I'm trying to consider how it would look if that call came (more realistically) later in the summer.
