Ok, I dont see this thread already started. How many of you on the waitlist? And for how many of you is it your first choice? Is there usually movement on this waitlist?
I got my waitlist email about a week ago from Dean Schwartz. I went complete 3/15. Good luck to all!!

I also got waitlisted about a week ago. I love UCLA, but USC was very competitive with their scholarship offer (competitive enough to turn down Cornell). I'm not sure how good $$ is off the waitlist, but i will be hanging in there regardless. Hopefully we won't be waiting too long!

When you guys got your waitlist email from Dean Schwartz, did you respond to him personally or did you just turn in the form?

I'm here too...not sure how long I'll stick around.

I mailed in the form with a short typed note saying that UCLA is my top choice and I will attend if admitted.

On the WL as well, since like December. Wrote a LOCI a few months ago, and will send in another. For some reason I feel like I have zero chance at UCLA. I know this year is supposed to be different, but in past cycles the waitlist has been a dark pit of despair.

Hehe. Oh, jks, aren't we dispiriting enough in the Cornell EA Deferred thread? No need to bring it to these poor folks!
I'm on the WL too - I'm going to send in that form with a LOCI but, at this point, I'm not sure I can honestly say I would drop everything for the Bruins. Gotta think about that before I write the LOCI.
Good luck to everyone!

Also on the UCLA waitlist as of 3/22. It is my top choice. Still waiting on the Epstein Program decision, so I'm hoping that I'll get a call soon saying I'm in. I can dream can't I?

Ha! I will not rest until everyone on this site is sharing my bitterness! Sorry, you're right. I more meant for me personally. I just don't see UCLA taking me based on who else is on the list, etc. I'm a Bruin undergrad so the WL stung a little, they just seem to have an admission strategy that doesn't include much of a WL buffer. But this cycle all bets are off!

Consider me joined up to the list —interestingly, the email made it to my spam folder, April 2nd! They graciously agreed to take my WL form plus my first LOCI + supplementary LOR.
I felt a very good vibe from admissions assistant Kelly Poptanycz. That may mean nothing. But I won't pretend I don't respond positively when an adcomm is helpful, and shows a great attitude.
Anyway, they say UCLA admits a good number of folks off of the waitlist (ie, more than, say, UVA or William and Mary). Is that so?

I promised to not bring doom and gloom to this thread, but UCLA has the opposite reputation. Last year the said they admitted (or at least enrolled) only 5 individuals from the waitlist. The appear to be smart about admitting the right number in the first pass. But I guess this year, all bets are off.

I'm on it.
Why are all bets off this year? Sorry if this question makes me seem stupid.

Applications are up everywhere a substantial amount, but individual applicants haven't increased much. Some people think this means there will be more waitlist movement than in past years, but that hasn't appeared to come to fruition quite yet.

Right, I'm banking on that possibility. Or that admits wait till the last second to make those withdrawals. Or that a massive piece of construction equipment falls and crushes about 100 admits at an ASD.

I sure hope you are right. My cycle has been waitlist city.

My WL letter made it to the spam folder too. Wonder if it has to do with something programmed in the email. Everyone make sure to check your spam folder!

Perhaps. Although one would think there were many more of us with this same problem if it was inherent to the email itself. Maybe it's b/c my "application is complete" email came from Kelly, and my WL email came from Dean Schwarz. Hmmm...
The only reason I got it was b/c I sent in an updated resume to UCLA b/c so much time has passed since my application. The burning question is how long I would have been waiting for?!

I was a UCLA undergrad but use a private email address on all my applications. I got the WL etc in my regular email. But they sent my "complete" email to my UCLA account, which I never check and certainly never gave to them. They must have pulled my undergrad file somehow.

I would guess that the
best outcome happens if you send two or three spread out (ie, not every week or 2 weeks) letters expressing your level of interest, plus things you have been up to, or things about their program that you find compelling, etc.
They say in an interview that a LOR is OK if you believe it truly adds an extra dimension not already shown in your PS, application, or previous LORs.
I am sure that updated transcript and resume (if they show anything new and good) are accepted as well. That's all I got. No magic answer... I want in too!
