New York Law School (no $) VS. John Marshall Chicago ($6K year; must be top 1/3)

I am having trouble deciding between the two. I have visited both schools and would love to practice in either area.
Must decide by today!

Is NYLS really that much better, its ranked a tier higher.

Please spare me the elitism, I need helpful advice, thank you

Where is the option for Powerscore LSAT courses?

And I'm both trolling and being serious.

If you are going to complain about my elitism, write a paragraph on how you are going to pay back 170 thousands dollars in debt from JMLS or NYLS.

Don't attend either. Wait a year, retake, and a year from now you'll be looking back at the day you decided NOT to attend either school and thanking God you didn't ruin your life.

i hate to say i agree, but in the large scheme of things, it might be a good idea to take all this advice. just estimating what your numbers are based on the schools, but maybe if you increased your lsat a little bit, with your gpa, you could apply to temple, northeastern, cardozo, depaul, etc. and get into those schools. These are just some T2 schools that are pretty good and will give you good career prospects. you could even try suffolk (good placement in boston) or other schools like that that excel in the region (sorry, i'm east coast focused). your current two schools are lower ranked schools in cities that are completely oversaturated, so even if they aren't terrible schools, it's hard to get placed when you're going against Cardozo or Brooklyn kids in NYC.

GOOD LUCK though!! if you get off those waitlists, you should definitely go to one of those schools.

praying to get off the waitlist

Waiting a year is always an option, you're simply refusing to make it so. Believe me, you'll regret attending either school at the prices they're giving you.

But shit, I'm not your mom. You asked for advice, we gave advice, you're a big boy; you choose to follow it or not follow it. Just promise me you won't join JDU and bitch like hell when you're unhappy with your NYLS J.D.

Go to NYLS.......to my understanding they have a better alumni network and JM is simply just not respected in Chicago.

I understand you're scenario, I have a friend who will be attending a regional law school because of various reasons. No matter what people say though, if you work your ass off, you can either A) move for the transfer or B) get in the top percentile and hope for the best. But you do have to work your ass off.

Second, honestly, it's the people you know that will make the biggest different. I just watched (in horror and a bit of jealousy) as a roommate of mine get accepted to a Tier 2 school (a high tier 2) with a 152 and a 2.9, just for the sole reason that his Dad was alumni and a friend of his dad's was a former professor and they wrote him letters (the latter not even knowing him).

It's a learnable test. Just take a year off. It's an option.

I always try to stay out of these, but I'm telling you I know two people who went to NYLS. One had a half ride, got a job at a firm...and hates it. The other regrets it and is trying to transfer out
