NYLS

Recently I applied to NYLS and my application was rejected in less than two weeks. I was well above their 25% LSAT for the evening program. My gpa for undergrad (I graduated in 2003) was boarderline but I was sick for almost a year and worked over 20 hours. I also have two graduate degrees, recently getting commissioned for officer with Navy Reserve, and also have executive level management experience at a large bank and now a business owner. My private sector experience is stellar. They were pretty rude and short to me when I asked why I was rejected. Amazingly, I know people who have had high 140's and low 150's and got in. I know people with very weak resumes that got rejected or waitlisted in Sept and october from St. Johns, brooklyn, and rutgers and got in to NYLS. What is their deal?

I think all bets are off when applying late. I'd imagine you'll get in if you apply next cycle earlier on.

I dont get them. I have seen such weak people get in full time. I mean even in the workforce their attorneys are not the sharpest. Alot of them get abused by students from Seton Hall, Cardozo, St. John's, Brooklyn. They were my last choice I hope my other schools are not he same. EVen when I was applying they were very, very rude during the process. Is this their reputation?

I asked them if I should wait till next year and they said no send it in. We review every application from top to bottom. Every aspect. As long as you are before april 1st you stand a fair shot.

Well when you talked to them, did they suggest that you apply again in the fall?

no they were rude. Basically said, "We are a very competitive school and we aren't giving a reason so don't ask because you can't appeal." Like I said, I know people who got in their with high 140's. so i dont get them.

As I said, I think at this point, the number of seats they have available (if any) becomes a large factor. I would have to guess that to be a competitive applicant at this point, you'd have to far exceed their requirements to be competitive. As far as them encouraging you to apply, I believe that at no point they would say anything to the contrary.

like I said they were my last choice and alot of people give me negative feedback on them. I guess they waitlist people already too.

Um if you're gonna start a thread about you being better than applicants yet still being rejected, then yeah it is bitching.

I was confused because they bascially told me they didnt review it. I was looking for clarity. If I sound like I was bitching I apologize. They also told me it is easier to apply for full-time than evening. Whatever that means.

Rand,

I seen your list of acceptences. Congrats.

+1 Its so lame when people rag on people who got in just because they didn't. How do you know those people were "weak."They rejected you because they could. Its possible they foresaw you being this kind of person and wanted to make sure you didn't come. End of all the stories.

Thanks for the congrats. It really does sound like bitching though. Just take it as a sign that that's not where you're meant to be. Don't make TLS threads bashing a school for not letting you in.

I think your selling point was your softs... (that you are an experienced, reliable adult) And I believe the admissions rep probably thought that it contrasted your late application.

Me? I'll be at University of Chicago next year. Sorry for the harshness of my post earlier if you didn't mean to come across as 'bitching'. You just sounded really spoiled and entitled.

I was working on an officer commission for the navy reserve and also my father was diagnosed with cancer and I had to take him around to doctors so I asked them specifically should I wait until next year and things got hectic they said no, you will get a full review. Others schools told me its a disadvantage. That was my point.
Like rand said, it wasnt meant to be.

Awesome on Chicago. World is your oyster. best of luck
