Does it really make a difference?

Say you two candidates, one in the top 5% with no work experience, and one in the top 15% with a significant career prior to LS. Do they usually go for the top student, or does experience win out?

Someone with some substance to their resume will have far more to talk about in the interview, and will thus be less likely to get bounced for personality reasons, but GPA cutoffs are GPA cutoffs.
