162 3.6 Mex URM in SoCal. Good softs.

Loyola LA- Accepted W/ no $
Columbia- Waitlisted/ denied
Virginia- Waitlisted/denied
Duke- Wait/D
Southwestern- Acc. - Half Scholly
U of Wash- Denied ( Really wanted to go to this one)
Seattle u- Acc - no $

now I applied in late January- could that be why I had a horrible cycle compared to others with similar stats?
Should I redo my cycle and apply early next year?
Any advice would be appreciated!

I have similar stats to yours and I also applied in Jan, so I know how you feel (especially about UW). If you are okay with taking a year off and you don't like the schools you got into/don't think they are worth the cost then I would apply again right at the beginning of the cycle. I would also take the LSAT again if you think you can get a higher score. On the other hand, if your like me and can't take another a year off and are ok with a school you got into you can go in to that one then transfer to your top choice (though transfer can be a lot harder and you'll have to really excel in your 1st year classes). Barring UW, that's not really a terrible cycle for your numbers. The occasional surprise definitely hurts, but 4 or 5 points on the LSAT would go a long way.

wow. I am well aware of the difference between your and you're. However, I am multitasking at work and not paying attention to grammar/spelling etc since this is a very casual forum. I hope I don't go to school with someone like you as well

I think we need more info. For instance, I looked at your profile and it says your LSDAS GPA is actually 3.5, and 3.6 is your degree GPA. You need to count the 3.5 in this instance.

Also, are you in undergrad/finishing your senior year? Would you consider re-taking the LSAT, and do you have any reason to believe you can do better? Where do you want to practice/what do you want to do with a degree?

But absent any other info, I'd say re-apply next year and apply widely. My understanding is that URM admissions can be a little more unpredictable because you are dealing with smaller numbers. You will definitely see better results if you get your applications out in October rather than January. If you can or are willing to re-take the LSAT, you can also "make" tens of thousands of dollars on the jump; treat it like a job or an investment. There aren't many times in life when two months of work can net you $150, 000.

Though I'm usually in favor of getting your legal career underway, you should definitely take another year off and reapply. You should apply to more medium-range schools (e.g., rarely should a cycle, except the most egregious splitter's, include both Columbia and Southwestern). Also, if you're going to wait the extra year, you may as well retake (though a 162 URM is still pretty decent).

I'm in the same boat, OP. When you get the time, I would suggest going through LSN and looking at applicants with similar #s who applied early, as compared to those applied late, if you need that sort of "hard" evidence.

...still waiting on Vandy, BC, GWU, and Yale(pipe dream probably, but I had to know).

And, I'm probably going to take a year off and reapply. I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to make my LSAT increase, I'm kind of surprised it was so low in the first place. I was practice testing in the 168-170 range. Anyway, I don't think waiting a year would hurt you at all, where as going now might limit you in the future.

A horrible cycle? Are you kidding me? Your numbers aren't anywhere near some of the schools you applied to. A non-URM with those numbers would be an outright reject at CLS, UVA, and Duke, so be honest that you were expecting your URM status to do the work for you. No, your cycle was not horrible--your choice of which schools to apply to was.

Condolences on UW though, but your numbers were still just barely above the 25th. If that's really where you want to go, and you think you could boost your LSAT by 2-3 points then I think you have a great shot next year.
