Official TLS Wailisted to Accepted thread 2010

For those of us on Waitlist Hell I've started this thread to share information about who is plucking people from the waitlist. Apps are up 4% her and 32% there and 50% somewhere else this year, so I suspect that there will be loads of shuffling throughout the summer.
The adcoms have all of our information so we need to pull together to deduce some of their information. One of the main benefits of a board like this is that we can track trends at schools. If, for example, we realize that Columbia is pulling splitters with LSAT scores above 172 off of their waitlists then we can assume they are trying to aim for a median score of 173. Also we know that they are not meeting that goal. We will be in a slightly better position to ask for scholarship money if we have a LSAT score of 173. Obviously it is the same with GPA and URM status.

For starters, I know GULC began pulling people off the special preferred waitlist on April 1st.
BeefWellington got in with reported stats of 171, 3.2
gobears got in with a 173, 3.3
clintonius also with 172, 3.8
So GULCs 25 - 75% numbers are 3.43-3.79 and 166-170.
Early indications are they are pulling people, including splitters, with good LSATs. But three is not enough data to be reliable. (BTW, I took the numbers for their profiles. They announced their admissions on another thread.)

Hi Murph. If you go back through the GULC WL thread they'd been letting people in earlier than our 4/1 batch, the first ones went DR 3/15 I think.
Another good resource for this stuff will be LSN, you can click on a school's Applicants tab and it'll have all the people listed as WL/accepted in one place.
Good luck getting off one of those WLs! I know how frustrating it is to be on so many and have everything up in the air like that. So glad GULC narrowed things down for me.

+1. I like the idea of putting all this info in one thread. It would be interesting to compare trends across schools. FWIW, Dean Pless from Illinois posted official #s (at
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... start=1275) on total applicants as of 3/19:
Pless wrote:
We are up 40% from same time last year. We received 3,500 applications last year. Nationally applications are up 7% and applicants are up 4.2%.
The bold text seems most relevant--with applicants up only 4.2%, a national increase of 7% in apps (and 10%, 20%, etc. at some schools) suggests a rise in apps-per-applicant, which means more withdrawals. It's unclear, however, how many have withdrawn already vs. how many will withdraw around seat deposit deadlines vs. how many will double/triple deposit and withdraw in the summer. Finally, it is unclear to what extent schools factored this increase into their yield models by making more offers than usual.

Great idea for a thread! Hoping to join the ranks of beefwellington and others to get off the WL.
Hoping we'll see more movement in this thread after April 15, which seems to be the magic day for a number of seat deposits and when US News releases the 2010 rankings.

On 3 waitlists with one of them being my first choice (GW PT). Since their deposit date was pushed back to May 1 it's going to be an extra long wait for me but willing to ride it out since I'm already working in DC.

On 4 waitlists now, and they're all better than my only outright acceptance.
American (possibly YP since my LSAT was way above their median)
GW
W&M
Notre Dame
This is going to be a long summer.

Waitlisted at Penn, BU, and Fordham (had more but withdrew). Also held at NU and WUSTL, which also seems to be sort of dependent on others withdrawing.

WL at Georgetown (hoping to join beef off the SPWL!), Duke, Virginia, UCLA & Held at Northwestern (which seems close enough to a wl)
Here's to hoping everybody gets some WL love this year once ratings come out on the 15th!!! Countdown is on.

Correct. I was part of the 3/15 group, and I was probably the first person in that group to find out. I even got some scholarship money off of them. With that said, someone also mentioned that GULC seems to be pulling heavy LSAT splitters from the SPWL (or maybe in general). I'm certainly part of that group.

Woohoo shoutout!! FWIW, my actual GPA is a 3.28, and I only spent about a week on the waitlist. Good luck to everyone! I withdrew from Duke waitlist this week.

Wait-listed at UCLA, UVA, Georgetown, GWU (I found that one odd), Vandy, and Duke. I am interested in UVA, Duke, and Vandy.

Good thread idea!
I just got in to Georgetown off of their "special group within the preferred waitlist."
I was happy to share this news with George Washington, which placed me on its unranked waitlist immediately after I applied. (I'm not sure it was yield protection--my essay became pretty terrible when chopped down to 500 words.) Best of luck to everyone still waiting!
edit: this is with a 3.48/171 for anyone who is interested, though I think it had more to do with my genuine continuing interest email. My theory is that Georgetown isn't so much concerned with scores this year as with their yield rate. (They had already bumped their early decision deadline all the way back to March.)

I'm waiting on three (Cornell-reserve, GW, BU). I won't pay sticker at GW, and I probably wouldn't pay sticker at BU (but maybe). So really I'm waiting on one (but maybe two, depends on the day). I was originally waitlisted by 7 schools; I withdrew from the others.
Here's one thing I'd like to know: are there actually people out there on a cornell waitlist? Or are all the yellow dots on LSN on the reserve list? And if there is a waitlist already, which is it better to be on?

I dont think anyone is on the official waitlist yet. From my understanding, everyone is on reserve as of now. And then late May/early June is when Cornell will make their decisions. So, imo, reserve is better than a waitlist because it is a "pre-waitlist" and you are guaranteed to hear something before the summer months really get going...
