Who isn't on the UVA waitlist?

There are 300+ people on their waitlist just on LSN. Conventional wisdom says LSN represents 10-15% of applications. Are there really roughly 3000 people currently sitting on the waitlist? For a class of 375. That has already likely locked in at least a third of the class through the extended ED deadline.

My dead cat is [strike]probably[/strike] on that waitlist.

EDIT: checked with my cat

They realize that there is no downside for them except pissing off applicants, but none of us are going to get in anyways so the joke is on us.

I see why they do it but waitlists are out of control. I'm in at 2 schools and waitlisted at 8 rejected at 0...

It could be that 80-90% of UVA's waitlist is on LSN. Meaning that students put on the waitlist are looking for answers as to their chances off the waitlist, thereby increasing the percent that search and then use LSN.

My unsubstantiated idea of the day!

Obviously this won't happen, but I wish everyone on the WL would withdraw and leave UVA scrambling to put together a class. I think the way they handled admissions this year really sucks. Using the ED as a way to play chicken and make students commit early without seeing all their options is really low. Not saying anything out of bitterness of being put on the WL either, as I would have not accepted admission anyway. Good luck to those that really want UVA, I hope you get in, and I hope they adjust their ways in the future.

I will agree that it is more likely that many of the waitlisted applicants will be on LSN, but I also believe UVA is being very liberal with their waitlist.
