What's the total difference in cost of attendance? It's more than $2,000, I bet. I still don't think you're in a strong negotiating position but it never hurts to try.

+1, maybe WUSTL will do more than just match the 40k?

If you get a school to offer you more money based on the fact that a lower ranked school offered you pretty much the same amount then more power to you.

i don't think wustl is a much better school than uiuc, in terms of their top students' ability to get jobs, but i think top students at wustl have much more access than UIUC does to job in primary markets other than chicago.

think about it...UIUC places about 63% of their grads in Chicago...much higher than any school...So the Chicago market is full of Illinois Alums...i highly doubt that they will ever have a problem placing in chicago...Go to any top law firm and you will find an Illinois Alum
