I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread... those of us clinging to this last shred of hope need moral support.

Is anyone else planning on making a trip out there? As soon as I bought my plane ticket, a current student called the Law Firm that I work at inquiring about summer associate positions. It felt like fate

Does anybody have any information about how many students actually matriculated off of the waitlist last year? I am really nervous. I want to go to UIUC badly. Guess I should get started on that LOCI and try to scrape up some money for a plane ticket...

I believe Dean Pless said he expects something like 5-15% of the class to come off the wait list. I'm not expecting that more then 20 out of the few hundred are going to make it in. I was really hoping the wait list was going to stay pretty small but it hasn't seemed to.

Ahh... Well, all I can do is stay positive and draft the best LOCI ever written.
Good luck to you! I hope we are both part of that 5-15%

Well, this isn't meant to be schadenfreude at all, but I feel a bit better that I'm not the only one who was waitlisted unexpectedly.
I can only guess two things from LSP:
1. This is the point in the cycle where former admits are becoming waitlists, as Pless' interview with TLS indicates usually happens at Illinois.
2. They are desirous of a 167 median, perhaps because of the extra strong and large app pool, as it appears that they are being a lot more easygoing at 167 (at least as far as admits' GPA does).

Does anyone on the waitlist have below their median?
Does anyone know how many people actually choose to stay on the list? Hopefully not mannny!

well i am surprisingly on the waitlist, way far below the median, but a URM, I have heard of a couple people withdrawing, I was in the first round of waitlist so I have been kind of putting it in the back of my mind. Visiting was going to depend on how the rest of my cycle goes, so I am still attempting to patiently wait. . .

I got the waitlist e-mail yesterday as well. That put a damper on my day, but it's cool.... I decided to stay on the waitlist although I don't really believe I"ll get in from it. I guess I just wait wait wait.

I'm gonna send an LOCI whenever I have free time this week. Illinois is still my top choice and, like a lot of the people in this thread, I was not expecting to get waitlisted. I'm a 164/3.7/URM, so it's obviously the LSAT score that got me passed over. Good luck in April, everyone...and remember...we all still have a chance!

I had a dream last night that I went to visit UIUC and got offered admission after meeting with Dean Pless (although, he was Joshua Jackson.. that's what too many reruns of Dawson's Creek do).. haha

on the waitlist, 166, 3.5+ non-URM - not really surprised. It seems UIUC and Minnesota are basically going with 166/3.6+ and 167 anything as the cutoff in most circumstances.

Hope to see you on the other side! Have you sent in a LOCI yet? I'm thinking about working on mine this weekend.

I withdrew from the waitlist, so hopefully that ups the odds a tiny bit for the rest of you. I'll still be rooting for the Illini to sneak in to the NCAA tourney though

I withdrew from the wait list immediately after receiving the email. Kind of a joke, they experience a scandal and increase their admittance standards. Oh well, good riddance, much better offers on the table. In case you were wondering... 168/ 3.3

Thought I would just post a brief update on our wait list. We currently have 312 applicants on the wait list. I should start to get a better idea of how much wait list activity we will have during the first week of April. If I had to guess now, I would say that there will be a lot of activity throughout April, May and June.
