Re: LSU 2010
Just got my acceptance today!
Dated 2/10/10, Mailed 2/16/10. PAWS account expanded on 2/8/10
There's a line in the letter in the letter saying:
"If you qualify for merit and/or need based scholarships, you will be notified as soon as scholarship decisions are made."
So maybe they are still doing scholarships after decisions (I hope).

Just checked my letter and that wording was not in my acceptance letter. I just read it again and my acceptance letter didn't even mention merit aid. But I did get some.macatak911 wrote:Was that exact language in you acceptance letter?TonyDigital wrote:Congratulations and good luck on the scholarship. Thanks for checking, if I don't get any I'll just look at resident tuition as a scholarship in itself.TonyDigital wrote:Just checked my letter and that wording was not in my acceptance letter. That exact wording was in my acceptance letter (hidden, on page two, at the end of the first paragraph. I got the acceptance letter Dec 18, received merit scholarship letter ($18,957 if in top 33%) Jan 29. So it was about three weeks, but that was awhile ago.

Sweet, so looks like they are still considering scholarships after admission decisions. Scholarship or not looks like I will be attending in the fall! Hope to see some of you there.haider wrote: That exact wording was in my acceptance letter (hidden, on page two, at the end of the first paragraph. Anybody going to the ASD on April 10th? There was a flyer in my packet.

I think someone said that it seems as though they are now giving applications to the scholarship committee before they send out the admit packages, so that could be slowing down the process.wiggsb wrote:My paws expanded over 1 1/2 weeks ago and I still haven't received any mail. What gives, LSU?

I made this statement and I'm going to say that after getting my packet yesterday, I believe it was like it was before. Decision, letter, scholarship.roguey wrote:I think someone said that it seems as though they are now giving applications to the scholarship committee before they send out the admit packages, so that could be slowing down the process.wiggsb wrote:My paws expanded over 1 1/2 weeks ago and I still haven't received any mail. Re: LSU 2010
In order to establish financial independence, a student seeking reclassification should meet thehaider wrote:darknightbegins wrote:Also how difficult is it to get in state tuition at LSU after the first year? I just heard from someone you have to prove you are there for something other than school in order to get it, is that correct?
I called and asked and they said "there are a lot of different ways to establish residency. Since this was so vague, I did a good search and here is LSU's requirements:
The following facts and circumstances, although not necessarily conclusive, may support one’s claim
for resident classification for tuition purposes: financial independence from parents residing in
another state or country; reliance on Louisiana resources for financial support; possession of a valid
Louisiana voter registration card for at least one year and voting in Louisiana; designating Louisiana
as his or her permanent address on all school and employment records, including military records if
one is in the military service; possession of a valid Louisiana driver’s license (if applicable) for at least
one year; possession of a valid Louisiana vehicle registration (if applicable) for at least one year;
continuous presence in Louisiana during periods when not enrolled as a student; commitments
indicating an intent to stay in Louisiana permanently; paying Louisiana income taxes as a resident
during the past tax year, including income earned outside Louisiana from the date Louisiana domicile
was claimed; establishing an abode where one’s permanent belongings are kept within Louisiana;
licensing for professional practice (if applicable) in Louisiana; and the absence of these indicia in
other states during any period for which domicile in Louisiana is asserted.
It goes on for about five pages.
--LinkRemoved--
Just FYI I was reading scholarship info more closely and it does say "Should your residency status change, your scholarship will be adjusted accordingly." Just something to keep in mind.
following criteria for the current and immediately preceding calendar year: (1) that the student has not
been claimed as an exemption for state or federal income tax purposes by his/her non-resident parents;
(2) that the student has not lived in the home of his/her non-resident parents for more than six weeks
after the time at which a Louisiana domicile is claimed; and (3) that the student’s primary source of
financial support not be derived from Federal programs and/or campus employment (such as graduate
assistant scholarships and scholarships that provide a waiver of non-resident fees).
Number 3 may be important for alot of people in proving they are financially independent from federal loans as well as their parents.
All and all I am still not sure how getting in state residency as a 2L will take or the likelyness of getting the residency. It will be one of the big questions I ask when I go on the tour in April.
Did everyone else get the seat deposit deadline email?

Still waiting for LSU to send a decision. My account expanded about a week and a half ago but still no letter. Does anyone know about housing in Louisiana? What about roommates vs. living alone.

Cost of living in Baton Rouge doesn't seem that bad. I'll be at admitted student day in April and housing will be one of the questions I ask.

Re: LSU 2010
Regarding housing:
On campus: They house the law students
in the "East Campus Apartments." Know some people who lived there in UG, pretty nice.
Off campus: There are many options within two blocks of the law school at the North Gates of LSU. Specifically, The Venue at North Gates, Campus Crossings Highland, and Sterling North Gate. Google either of those to find more info. Further off campus there are a plethera of options. When I visited in late January I got a visitor pass to park in the law school student lot and it was barely even half full (at 10 am), so commuting from off campus shouldn't be a problem parking wise like it is with UG. I personally will most likely be staying at one of the North Gate apartment complexes simply because of location. The idea of front door to school in 3 minutes appeals to me.
If any of yall have more specific questions regarding housing just ask, I went to LSU UG in 05-06.
