This thread is late in coming, but since all of the admission traffic so far has been included on the 1L's taking questions thread, this can be the separate thread that IU deserves!

applied already with 165/3.35. think this GPA hurts my chances? IUB is without a doubt one of my top picks, and if accepted, i'd have a hard time turning it down

From LSN charts, it seems like anyone 164+/3.0+ is auto-admit at IU. You should be good.

I applied ED at Mich and was deferred. IU is probably my destination, though. I love the campus, the location, job prospects in Chicago (not as much as T14 prospects, but anyway), the relatively cheap COL, the relatively good QOL, etc.

I applied 11/25, still waiting to hear back. Was it snail mail for those accepted?

In the past, IUB seldomly turned down a 165 no matter what the gpa. seriously, even a 2.5,165 would probably get you in. although they've had a 50% increase in apps this cycle, you're probably still way more likely to get in than not.

Hello! I submitted my application on December 31. 165/3.7. Is there any chance I can get accepted with money?

Congrats to all those who have already got accepted

50%? Really? Where did you hear that?

it's a 54% increase to be exact.

Unless you've murdered someone, you'll be in. You'll likely get $15K or 20K/year, according to LSN data.

Is their "6-8 week" line about them making a decision an accurate estimate on how long I will wait before I hear back? Or is it just a standard message?

I'm really curious about this too. I went complete on january 5, I hope that I can get a response earlier than 6-8 weeks.

Anyone care to drop their .02 cents on my chances with a 3.5/163?

with both your numbers being below their medians it's highly unlikely that you would get in. you should retake the lsat and get a 164. the law school numbers game is ridiculous. a 1 point increase from 163 to 164 would make you a lock for being admitted.

1 more thing, their applications have increased by over 50% so a 165 would be a safer bet since they could possibly try to increase their lsat median to that.

There's hope. I'm in +45k with a 164/3.5(non-URM OOS).

Edit: Also, all that matters for the USNWR rankings is the 25/75 range, not the median. A 163 puts you way above the 25th (156).

this is not true at all...usnews may publicize the 25th and 75th percentile, but they base rankings off of the medians. ccs got in because his lsat is 164.....well not because, but you know what i mean.

According to this, they stopped using the median and started using the range in 2006. http://www.bcgsearch.com/pdf/BCG_Law_Sc ... e_2009.pdf

hmmm...this is inconsistent with actual applicant results from last cycle. according for lawschoolnumbers.com for IUB applicants with 164 lsat, and 3.65 gpa or less, there was a 100% acceptance rate (23/23 accepted). for 160-163 and 3.65 or less, there was a 4% acceptance rate (1/24 accepted).

Najumobi, sorry, I meant page 9. I really have no idea, to be honest. I was surprised by that as well, but it seemed like a pretty credible report. Either way, it would seem odd to accept me w/ $$ and reject someone else outright when the difference is only one LSAT point.

yeah it's pretty odd until you place it in context. if you were to attend indiana you wouldn't be hurting their lsat median. on the other hand, aschleic would, and as a result hurt them in rankings. i think that's why people call it the "rankings/numbers game." law school admissions is quite absurd.
