I received a call from Dean Tom admitting me on 12/21 (or at least I think I did... ) Yet, today I get the following email:
Dear Shaggier1,

I write to inform you that your application at UC Berkeley Law School has passed an initial administrative review and has been selected for further consideration by the Faculty Admissions Committee. The Committee will begin deliberation on your application on January 29. We anticipate a final decision will be reached on or around February 19.

Thank you for your patience!

Edward Tom
Dean of Admissions
Kill me.

Phew. It was a mistake.

Dean Tom got on the phone to tell me the email is a mistake and apologize personally. That guy is a class act.

This is why I refuse to believe I'm in until I get the letter. That's horrible.
Edit: Or it would have been if it had actually happened. Congrats though.

Umm, did you actually speak to Dean Tom? If you did, surely the decision was already made. (in which case, congrats) It would also constitute some sort of verbal contract, no? (joking)

So, I wonder what the implications are for that mailing then?

Lol, that is the worst part. I actually called them earlier today because I hadn't yet received the letter and I was concerned. I joked that I "wanted to make sure the Dean hadn't called me by accident." The woman assured me that "that is not a mistake he often makes." And then THIS. Haha.

My heart completely dropped. Glad to have gotten another opportunity to chat with him, though. I was so shocked last time I didn't get to properly thank him for admitting me, so I did this time around.

Is this blatant anti-northwestern trolling?

Probably an undergrad employee who got excited and checked the wrong name on their mass mailer program.

What do you mean? No implications. I was told to ignore it.

Oh. I doubt it. I think I was originally selected for Faculty Review and he pulled me out. That's the only think I can think of.

Well, I originally freaked out because I didn't remember the time difference. I live in DC and admissions offices are closed here, so I thought I'd have to wait til morning. Then I remembered, called, and they took care of it in about 90 seconds.
