bleak may be right, but keep in mind that most of them didn't retake and have significantly better lsat scores, rawl. also, you now know your numbers are clearly in the admit range, based on melrslayer wrote:end of march a couple got in. mostly bleak prospects though last cycle.Rawlberto wrote:Anyone know how deferred candidates made out last cycle? also, i am not convinced that last cycle is a good indication of this cycle due to the decrease in takers. and now that we know harvard is maintaining class size its even better news for the lower t14horrorbusiness wrote:bleak may be right, but keep in mind that most of them didn't retake and have significantly better lsat scores, rawl. also, you now know your numbers are clearly in the admit range, based on melrslayer wrote:end of march a couple got in. mostly bleak prospects though last cycle.Rawlberto wrote:Anyone know how deferred candidates made out last cycle? Re: Cornell c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
can anyone help me out on this one?
the email that deferred some of us mentioned that our applications will be reviewed (again) with regular admissions applicants after the Feb 1st deadline...
so.. when would we likely hear back? April-ish or possibly sooner?
Disclaimer: I'm sure this is in the past cycle's thread but I would rather not sift through all of those pages so any help is appreciated

Not sure how it will work this cycle. May be different (i.e. they may pull more people from the deferred EA list) because they deferred so many qualified applicants. My guess is that people will start hearing around March-ish.gaud wrote:can anyone help me out on this one?

Re: Cornell c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
To agree with what was already said above, I would be willing to be a lot of it is the product of the lower number of applications, so they are more compelled to take a longer look at their applicant pool. The whole EA thing didn't seem to confer any advantage other than to those who were admits competitive at any point in the cycle. I would also think there is a broad spectrum of candidate who have the luxury of applying to Cornell as a safety, and those who choose to ED at one of the MVP, so to defer a competitive applicant who will later withdraw is never a loss for the school. If applications are truly down to the extent everyone here is speculating, it would make sense that those deferred will begin to hear back earlier than March.Killingly wrote:Not sure how it will work this cycle. Unfortunately, LSN already shows that the number of admits is pretty close to enough to already fill the class. On the bright side, there are already around 15 withdrawals out of about 150 admits. LSN obviously does not represent anything but a small portion of the applicant pool tough. LSN says that they typically admit 941 with 188 attending, which is a lower yield compared to GULC and NU. The best case scenario would be that the lower number of applicants overall leads to higher ranked schools drawing in more of those that Cornell would typically have matriculate, and hopefully those individuals withdraw sooner than later so the deferred list sees more movement.
And gaud, on an unrelated note from a different thread, never did get my 'yote

Hear there was a lot of deferrals obviously, and some admits. My question is was there any significant number of denials? Didn't see a lot of the thread, so just wondering if there was many denials.

LSN is your friend. Not a ton of surprise rejections, though I was betting on the 144/3.3. As well, I don't think there have yet been any decisions that were NOT for EA applicants.
Like I mentioned earlier, and as someone who went through and followed the EA decision cycle, the program really doesn't give much of a leg up to those with numbers hovering around the median at Cornell. Nothing about their program requires an applicant to commit either, so they are hardly securing their medians through EA and it gives Cornell no benefit outside of being able to initiate conversation with accepted applicants who would also stand a great chance at better ranked schools. I would think the EA program explains why they have such a low yield too, because many acceptances go out to those very high numbered applicants. That said, I have no knowledge of what the yield s of EA applicants compared to non EA.

Just got another complete update (my third?). Non-EA hovering around their medians.

Just updated to another complete. I think this may be my 5th complete after having turned back from UR somewhere after the 2nd or 3rd complete. Bracing myself for a WL or ding.

Same here. Should we regard this as good news? Or is it too late in the cycle to tell?wendys27 wrote:Just updated to 1/17

Haha me too, even though I'm held over from EA and likely not getting in. Hope springs eternal.
