It's great that you want a school that is obsessed with numbers and doesn't give a shit about the people behind the numbers, but there's no need to malign Michigan's medians or insinuate that their student body isn't benefited by a more holistic approach in the way that you have. It just seems rude.
On the numbers side I'm simply saying I would benefit from a school being numbers-obsessed.
On the medians side, I'm confused as to why you or anyone else thinks that 3.73/169 represents poor medians. Since you are the second person to demonstrate this confusion I'll take the blame for not making my sarcasm clear enough. I think Michigan does try harder than other schools to take more of an application into account. But after all that they end up with median numbers as good or better than their peer schools. And even if they do want a class full of interesting people, can interesting people really convey themselves through a 2 page PS and a 1 page optional essay?

I think that is legitimate, because an AA male might get a 10 point boost = 169 and 3.74 which definitely can get into Mich and Berk

So on that note, Michigan and Cali are not supposed to give URM boosts... so it still just seems off to me.

The 10 point boost isn't literal, it's just a way of estimating the boost. URM is just a really strong soft.

True, Michigan cannot (according to Michigan law) give a URM boost. The law says nothing about taking into account overcoming adversity.

FWIW I was not imputing anything to Michigan. In fact, I have no idea why they seem to not like me, and I'm more inclined to believe it was something I mentioned above other than YP.
I don't want to go to school X which just admits the 300 people with the highest index number, but I think you're being a bit Pollyanaish about how deliberate their adcomm is or how little they care about numbers. Can you really glean competitiveness or collegiality from a resume or application in order to deliberately stock your class full of such people?
I'm glad you're liking Michigan (I still like Michigan! I hope they eventually let me in!) but I always take "Law school X is different. It's not competitive at all!" arguments with a grain of salt. You read them in every single view book, and I've had 1Ls parrot that stuff, only to completely recant when you tell them you're looking for the truth.

+1. Holistic ultimately just means unpredictable to anyone not on an admissions committee. It's impossible for us to know what they're gleaning from personal statements and 500 word why Michigans.
Also please reconsider and let me in Mich.

Said much better than I could.
Crumps, I was only trying to reassure myself and others in my situation who currently live under a neurotic haze where every possible issue with our app comes to mind. Surely you understand.

Absolutely. In general, I would encourage every 0L to interrupt random people at every law school you visit and ask them about the school. Ask the same questions of 5+ different people. If you only interact with your tour guide, you are just getting the admissions office's version of the truth. If you talk to 5 random students you are going to start to get a feel of what the school is really like.
I feel like a lot of people are afraid to do ask people what they really think of their school.

I'm gonna get offline for a while now. I need to study for finals. I do apologize if offended anyone. I just wanted to disabuse this thread of the notion that there is a top score cut-off, the data over the past several years just doesn't support that theory.

I do, definitely. To clarify, I don't think you're a douche (not even close) -- I was just being frank because I consider you a good friend, and I knew you weren't gonna overreact. I just didn't understand the point behind your comments at the time. (: <3

Whew! I'm glad that this has been "resolved." Any time TLS regulars exchange heated words, I feel like my close friends are having a big fight (which adds to my social anxiety). Let's play nice - we're all special snowflakes.

If anyone has any questions just PM me and I'll answer them. I don't want to take over this thread trying to validate myself and going on tangents about what I do. Not to be cocky, but my story is captivating in regards to what I've overcome etc., and how I will add diversity to schools. Granted I won't get into HYS but I think that other top schools don't mind fitting a 159 into their average. My school also has a track record of having stellar AA students who have done well in these respective law schools. PM for any specifics. Good luck all!

I don't post on TLS much, but I submitted on 10/4, got a status checker on 10/12, and haven't heard anything since then. Have given up on trying ASW every morning, so I'm of the mindset that my Michigan app is just lost on the floor of an office somewhere. Please love me, Dean Z!!!!!

It's true. I've outperformed my numbers thus far and I'm not a URM. Granted, my LSAT is almost 10 points higher than that but I still outperformed based on the numerical predictions from LSAC, HourUMD, and what not.
