If it didn't come from admissions, I would be concerned seeing as it had my first name on the email.anonid wrote:In case no one has pointed it out, the email did not come from Cordel Faulk's official UVA admissions email:

Not sure if clf8g@Virginia.edu is just an alternate email of his or someone decided they wanted to embarrass the admissions department. For Virginia's sake, I hope it's the latter. That letter was an insult to anyone who put even a little effort into his personal statement.

I'm guessing it's his internal email address? Oh god.
Though for the record, I totally think this is a nice gesture and as the queen of typos, sympathize deeply.

+1. If anything, the fact that the most egregious typo was emphasized to such an extremely unfortunate degree makes the whole process feel a little more human.Dipper wrote:Seriously? Come on. Page numbers is such a Cooley way to calcuating thread rankings.swadianfc wrote:Harvard - 161Tr3 wrote:MAYBE UVA was displeased with the number of pages ITT so they wanted to add a few more by sending a mass email? Gotta stay competitive.
WUSTL - 104
Notre Dame - 87
Northwestern - 73
Georgetown - 71
NYU - 64
UPenn - 64
Michigan - 64
UVA - 57
TTT status confirmed
USNWR would rank by page views:
1 Harvard (242k)
2 NYU (108k)
2 Penn (108k)
4 Columbia (107k)
5 Georgetown (94k)
6 Northwestern (93k)
7 Stanford (88k)
7 Michigan (88k)
9 Duke (83k)
9 UVA (83k)
11 Chicago (81k)
12 Cornell (70k)
13 Notre Dame (67k)
14 WUSTL (66k)
Here, we can see what makes an effective AdCom strategy to game the rankings. Harvard and Penn both do waves of decisions, and Harvard distinguishes itself with waves of decisions AND waves of interviews.

Incidentally this is also a ranking of yearly COA in the year 2020

I think a lot of the bitterness comes from a lot of us believing we are being YP'd. Which makes an email like that - sent unprofessionally - essentially (at least to our minds, when maybe we are not being YP'd to be fair) a lie for the reason for the delay, with a bit of a condescending tone.Dipper wrote:Seriously? Come on. It was a thoughtful gesture meant to put reassure applicants.anonid wrote:That letter was an insult to anyone who put even a little effort into his personal statement.
This could easily be a bit of an entitled way of reading the email, but I think that is how a lot of us are receiving it - hence the bitterness. I would love to go UVA (if it was financially viable), it is one of my first choices, but it is quickly making me annoyed/not in my thoughts when considering where I will be headed.

Although I did think "Cordel" was a southern way of saying "Cordially." Like, as a valediction.

+1 for the strike-through and bold. While I can empathize with the frustration felt by all those waiting, these responses are pretty unnecessarily harsh unless y'all have never made a typo...? At least there was communication, even if it wasn't perfectly drafted.4LTsPointingNorth wrote:Auxilio wrote:I think a lot of the bitterness comes from a lot of us believing we are being YP'd. I appreciated the email -- didn't notice the typos truly until I came here and it was nice to hear something. Although, Dean Cordel, does this mean maybe I can hear back by March 21 as well?! aka don't WL/YP me plz I love you UVA
Suggestion for new poll: Have you been waiting longer than Dean Cordel?
November 26, 1997 to March 21, 1998 is 115 days. At this point, I've been waiting for 119 days.
