Didn't pay $28 to the LSAC monster for my application to be thrown in a black hole.ChemEng1642 wrote:jawsjawsjaws wrote:Half tempted to withdraw, but at the end of the day, I still kinda want my decision lollhereisonehand wrote:Another day, another big pile of nothing from UVA.

What are the benefits to withdrawing? Not having to get a new letter?

Purely psychological. Unless perhaps you're planning on reapplying next cycle, so as to avoid a previous ding/WL?Oskosh wrote:What are the benefits to withdrawing? Not having to get a new letter?

That's what I'm getting at. Is there a benefit to withdrawing so that you don't get a WL/ding? Presumably you're waiting for the next cycle to increase your scores/softs, so IDK. I might be in that situation and was curious about it.Bust3453 wrote:Purely psychological. Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Another reason to withdraw might just be knowing you have better options and would be unlikely to attend (especially since those of us stuck waiting for ages don't seem particularly likely to get $$$). And that's probably UVA's thinking, too--they're probably trying to get us to YP ourselves.Oskosh wrote:That's what I'm getting at. Is there a benefit to withdrawing so that you don't get a WL/ding? a wl/ding could be better than withdrawing if one wants to apply next cycle, imo doesn't seem to be any benefit to withdrawing. it doesn't explain many who withdraw from their first choice like Y even when they don't intend to reapply.Oskosh wrote:That's what I'm getting at. I'm sure it's been discussed but I haven't had the time to go through all of the pages to find information on the types of questions to expect during the interview. Is it pretty straight forward? If not, would anyone who's gone through the process be kind enough to PM me with any curve balls that I should expect to face?

My interview was pretty straightforward. I was asked why UVA, why law, resume questions (about a specific activity from college, my current job, etc.) and that was it.mindthegap wrote:I'm sure it's been discussed but I haven't had the time to go through all of the pages to find information on the types of questions to expect during the interview. Just received confirmation for an interview with Grace Cleveland for Tuesday. Anyone who has interviewed with her recently have any suggestions of what to expect? Thanks you so much!!

Same as my response above. Just be able to speak about any activity/job on your resume in depth and prepare 3-4 questions for her. She's really nice and loves UVA. They select people they are really interested in to interview, so just remember that she wants to like you and for you to do well in the interview.mrpatriot wrote:Just received confirmation for an interview with Grace Cleveland for Tuesday. Ugh I'm feeling a YP coming my way. Applied late December with YPable stats (and a Why UVA) and there's been no movement since.

I wish they'd just get it over with. I didn't do a Why UVA, so I'm almost certainly doomed to YP by now.nickhalden wrote:Ugh I'm feeling a YP coming my way. Applied late December with YPable stats (and a Why UVA) and there's been no movement since.

Any tips on negotiating $ at UVA? Apologies if this has already been discussed. UVA is my top choice, and I've already been offered some $.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Alright! So I'm scheduling a visit to UVA and just bought my plane ticket. I wonder if there is a polite/not annoying way to notify the admissions office that I am officially making a visit? On their website they say that registration is not required to attend any of their events during a visit. I just don't want to get waitlisted/dinged before the trip.Bust3453 wrote:I was in a similar situation, as I wrote no Why UVA in my original app, nor did I send in a LOCI. However, I visited the school and shortly after signing in was told that the dean wanted to see me at the end of the school tour. He talked to me for maybe 3 minutes and handed me my admissions packet. It seemed pretty obvious to me that this wasn't a pure coincidence of timing.mimiquestionmark wrote::'( so much regret! What about also visiting UVA? Has anybody here already done a visit? was there a chance to get face time with the admissions personnel and show strong interest in the school?hillz wrote:Yeah, there are a bunch of TLS-ers in the same position (and many who have been waiting since Sept/Oct) right now. Writing a Why UVA is hugely important, although doesn't guarantee you won't be WLed. If I were you, I would craft a well-written Why UVA now and ask that it be added to your file.mimiquestionmark wrote:I went complete in the middle of December and haven't heard a peep yet. I have a 173 LSAT and a 3.8 GPA and I'm starting to get worried. I heard that UVA/Penn have a history of waitlisting applicants like me because they want to keep their retention numbers high? UVA is really one of my top choices and now I wish that I had tailored my personal statement to UVA. Is anybody else in my position as well? It's too early for a letter of continued interest right?

Dinged via email. Surprised they didn't wait another 10 days for my pending LSAT score
