I personally know quite a few people who (and whose families) care a lot more about the name of the school than COA. I am good friends with two girls who turned down a significant chunk of change in scholarships from other schools to respectively go to Columbia and Cornell at near-sticker because going to an Ivy was the end all be all for them. Granted, they didn't get named scholarships so maybe that would've swayed them but I don't think so.altf4 wrote:I'm curious how many people might turn down endowed scholarships at various schools in the T14. I had heard of one person who seriously considered turning down a Hamilton for better options. Dunno what that person ended up doing but my only thought was, 'How could anyone consider turning down a hamilton?'nickhalden wrote:My biggest concern re: Dillard is that UVA is likely running out of Dillards to give. The Class of 2017 had twenty-six matriculated Dillards. There are twenty-two offered Dillards on LSN currently - not likely even the total amount currently offered. While some will not attend, the general consensus on TLS seems to be that most Dillards do matriculate. How many more Dillards can UVA afford to offer?

Checking in as a Dillard with lower numbers than you all have deemed worthy. LSAT = 171
I think softs and interviews matter a lot. Also probably undergraduate institution prestige? I know 3 of my friends at school have received Dillards and we all have similar numbers. As for softs, I was a marshall/rhodes/gates-cambridge level scholarship finalist so that could have come into play.

Congratulations! Also, 171 LSAT is around what we expect for a Dillard (it was the 25th percentile of LSN Dillards last cycle). We've been more interested in the appearance of 169 and 168 Dillards, which are at and below the UVA median. What is your GPA?bobleman300 wrote:Checking in as a Dillard with lower numbers than you all have deemed worthy. LSAT = 171

One of my friends is one of those "lower" numbers as well. We both have 3.9+ from a top ten private university.

The jealousy over Dillards in this thread is getting it away from the A/D/WL discussion. Be happy for folks, and don't take the success of others personally.
That saiiidddd: Had my phone interview recently and it went very well. The interviewer obviously took time with my file, which always feels great. Had specific feedback (all of it positive) about my personal statement and resume. Same general outline as all my others: Talk about X in your resume, why law, why UVA, any questions for me? I'm below median LSAT so no high hopes, but it says loads (in my mind) that they took so much time with a borderline-at-best candidate's application. Fingers crossed!
Huge congrats on the Dillards, y'all!

I know there is some jealously at play ITT, but there's also a lot of interesting discussion about the Dillards. I am happy for the recipients (and don't have any expectation of receiving one myself), but I also like reading the competing theories about selection criteria. It's a nice distraction while I wait on a decision. If you are going to get technical about it, an interview is not an acceptance, denial or waitlist either, but glad to hear it went well!rkspurs21 wrote:The jealousy over Dillards in this thread is getting it away from the A/D/WL discussion. U got me, nosocat
agree that the debate is interesting, if anything the lower LSATs we're seeing make me hopeful that the admissions game is moving away from straight "LSAT is what? GPA is what? Y/N". Stupid optimisim on that front, but it's still interesting.

Anybody else waiting to hear back from an interview that happened not so recently (3 weeks or more)? Or am I going to be one of the unfortunate few interview->dings ITT?

Glad I'm not the only one. LSN indicates that decisions have mostly come out on Th/F in recent weeks. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.feliscatus1 wrote:I am. 12/29 for me.Dipper wrote: Anybody else waiting to hear back from an interview that happened not so recently (3 weeks or more)? How long after applying were you guys invited to interview? Was it less than a month?
I submitted my app in early January and still no response.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
yep, I had the same, and it was definitely one of the best admissions experiences I've had so far this year. The interviewer even referenced a funny but minor hobby I have, which was shoved into one line at the bottom of my resume. I was like, thank GOD someone is actually reading all this stuff I've been slaving over.rkspurs21 wrote: The interviewer obviously took time with my file, which always feels great. Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I got a mix of standard and tailored. "Why law," "why uva," "tell me about your undergrad," etc. But then I also got "why did you choose that job," "why'd you choose to leave that and do what you're currently doing," "what did you get out of that position," "how'd you get into your hobby," etc. It was very conversational as opposed to interrogative.dude2nd wrote:What kind of interviews Q's should one expect?

i got the confirmation that my ED application was received on 1/19 and I sent in my in state privileges application on 1/22. My application status on the top seems to indicate under review. I'm nervous but am excited to hear back from them. Do they interview ED candidates? I know the turnaround time is 15 days but how fast is it generally? I guess based on the 1/19 date, I'm about half way through that.

I applied in Mid-November, and didn't get a request to interview until early Jan. They may have been waiting for my December score, but it appears their turnaround in general is a bit slower than earlier on in the cycle.ticklemesilly wrote:How long after applying were you guys invited to interview? Their turnaround is also varying greatly by applicant. Still haven't heard a peep since complete in early October.beef26 wrote:I applied in Mid-November, and didn't get a request to interview until early Jan. Not to take this thread six pages back, but...
Is this credited? (No offense to Mack, I just want to be sure before doing something that could be seen as over-aggressive.) I went complete in September, and have heard back with offers of admission and considerable $ from literally every other school (all T10) I am remotely interested in attending. I'd just really like to hear back from UVA as well, since it's my top choice! Would it be too much to submit a LOCI now, not having heard anything in more than four months? Do y'all think it has more chance of hurting or helping?Mack.Hambleton wrote:cant hurt (unless you write like five of them)lashley wrote:Is it ever appropriate to write a LOCI if you are not waitlisted yet? Seriously? What are you waiting for?
