Oh man. Just got the call that I was selected as an alternate for Navy. I know its still an uphill battle, but after being rejected from all the services multiple times, it sure feels like a win.

Congrats! Your dedication paid off. I guess if they are on to notifying alternates, then the rest of us can stop refreshing our emails every 30 seconds and get some work done, and then strategize for the next board. Not sure how to overcome a suboptimal SI though . . .Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 4:43 pmOh man. Just got the call that I was selected as an alternate for Navy. I'm seeking some knowledge from the Army National Guard JAGS. I know Active usually has to wait a year for a school slot, is this the same with the Guard? Also, if I'm drilling will I get my O3 before I go? Thanks.

Deployments are normally 9-12 months. Depending what kind of deployment —- each is different. Something that doesn’t count as a « deployment » but still can happen is going to Korea, normally units will rotate from home base for 9-12 months. Sometimes there’s a base with buildings sometimes it’s tents.. there are less and less deployments now though.

Re: Military Law
So just to be clear, sit-ups/curl-ups are DEFINITELY not part of the Navy's PRT anymore, right? Moving forward it looks like:
Pushups
Plank
One cardio event. Run/swim/row.
Just wanna make sure I'm not the guy who shows up at ODS having done only planks for the last six months and look like a fool.

I don't think the Navy sends out rejection emails. At least, I have never received one and I am certainly not a Navy JAG yet.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 1:32 pmThanks--maybe there's still some hope for us SP applicants! I also want to send out a congratulations to any Navy JAG selects for this cycle! There's obviously already a wealth of great information available on this board, but I'm a select from the last accessions board and am currently going through the commissioning process. Happy to answer any questions anyone might have on that front.

I got some Army National Guard JAGs here at DCC to answer these since this question got neglected:Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 5:27 pmI'm seeking some knowledge from the Army National Guard JAGS. 1. Depends on the state, depends on your unit, and depends on how long your medical clearance takes. Some said it took them 4 months, some took well over a year from acceptance to being here at DCC.
2. No, drilling doesn't get you closer to O3. You don't start your clock towards O3 until you finish JAOBC.

Re: Military Law
Correct. Sit-ups/curl-ups are not a part of the PRT anymore. We do planks now. However, be aware that at ODS you must do the run for cardio. The other options, like swim, bike and row are not available at ODS, but will be available once you get to your first command. So make sure you can score high enough on your run to pass the PRT at ODS. (Side note: Right now the PRT is a mock test at ODS, but I think it will become official again when the Navy starts lifting COVID restrictions in July).Mastah_Craft wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 12:14 pmSo just to be clear, sit-ups/curl-ups are DEFINITELY not part of the Navy's PRT anymore, right? Also, it may just have been my ODS class, but our chief LOVED making us do leg lifts/raises and burpees. They are not a part of the PRT, but life will be easier if you get good at those beforehand as well.

Are the standards the same for everyone at ODS or do they use the age brackets?MeganMarkle wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 7:01 pmCorrect. Sit-ups/curl-ups are not a part of the PRT anymore. They use age brackets. It's been years since my time in Newport, but I can't imagine that's changed.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:39 amAre the standards the same for everyone at ODS or do they use the age brackets?

Re: Military Law
For Army JAG, are there any opportunities to eventually stabilize/homestead at a duty station instead of PCSing every 2 to 3 years? I wouldn't even mind staying at a bigger post like Bragg or Campbell and then just switching jobs every few years (you can pull that off with some enlisted careers).

Just a friendly reminder to the Navy JAGC selects that the Accessions info session is happening today at 1500. Check your email for the link.

Yes, it's by age and gender. MyNavy HR (https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/) is a great resource where you can find info about things like the PRT and uniforms.Shellback wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 2:08 pmThey use age brackets. Guide 5 of the PRT section on page 20 has the scoring breakdown, which you can find here: https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Support-S ... ss/Guides/

Re: Military Law
Not quite, at least for Army Reservists, which I think functions the same as NG. Reservist JAs are eligible for promotion to O3 one year after their Commission date, BUT you have to have completed JAOBC and DCC to be promoted. So having a lot of time drilling (or just being in limbo post-Commission) before DCC/JAOBC is still beneficial, because it means you'll promote to O3 on the next board after JAOBC graduation, instead of 6-8 months later like the rest of the Reserve JAs in your class.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 6:43 pm2. Seriously? What are you waiting for?
