SJC and HJC Jobs?

Some people I know have gotten gigs at the Senate and House Judiciary Committees. What's the long-term play there? Do you go (back) to Biglaw? Try to work directly for a Senator/Congressman if you don't already? Or is it possible to just stay in that job forever?
