The thing is that you don’t have time-in-grade for GS 15 if the GS 15 is a legal position. Your experience has to be legal experience. It’s great that you have other experience but it’s not relevant for an attorney position.

The April review is when my corner of DOJ reviews pay and promotion stuff. Not sure if every component handles it this way. But if GS 12 requires one year of legal experience, you’re not going to have that the April after you start in September. It sounds like people who start at GS 11 who are just a little removed from one year of experience can get the opportunity to move up sooner, but if you’re talking about starting the fall after graduation that probably doesn’t apply to you.
Interesting. Thank you. My understanding from my gov't experience (but not at DOJ) is that time-in-grade isn't specific to a position type, it's just "have you been a GS-XX for 52 weeks." Looks like it'll be a long 3.5 years for me.
The difference may be that attorney positions are excepted service positions. So just for an example, here are the descriptions for how to qualify for GS-14 or GS-15 for a recently posted attorney position with DOJ (emphasis added):
Grade Specific Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least two and a half (2.5) years post J.D. legal experience, one of which was specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-13 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: performing legal analysis and formulating recommendations to senior managers; composing pleadings, briefs, and other court documents involving legal issues in civil or criminal litigation; and conducting civil or criminal litigation.

To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, applicants must have at least four (4) years post J.D. legal experience, one of which was specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: independently performing legal analysis; composing pleadings, briefs and other court documents involving unique and/or difficult legal issues in civil or criminal litigation; conducting highly complex civil or criminal litigation; and leading paralegals and support staff.

Had my BI interview a bit ago but still no word on start dates. Does anyone know when people normally start?

Some CIV components already have start dates. I’ve been told people typically start in September-October.

This was a little while back now, but I was given the option to start anytime between October and December. (I managed to get them to start me mid-September because my clerkship was ending and I needed the paycheck.) They also can't give you a start date until the background check clears (or at least clears some portion), so which background check you're doing can make a difference. If it's an SF-86 that will probably take longer than the other options.

Does anyone know if we are able to get any sort of stipend if we are relocating to a different state?

Can someone comment the salary of some of these positions?
Specifically, for the NLRB and DOL honors?

so NLRB talks about salaries and links to the GS scale here: https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/who-we- ... rs-program. It's the same as for DOJ honors so I'd bet DOL is the same, though I can’t confirm that.

Anyone receive information from their components on whether their work will be in-person, remote, or hybrid?

Anyone also still waiting for their background check? Just want to see if mine's being processed unusually slow, or if this is typical (submitted in Feb).

I am still waiting for my background check and I also submitted it around the same time as you. As far as whether work will be remote or not, I have not heard either.

I think if you want to know for moving purposes etc, you're best off just asking directly. You will doubtless do whatever the component as a whole is doing, not anything specific to honors, and components have had to put policies in place already. My office is back to the office with the option of up to 2 days a week teleworking, but I know someone in another component who only has to be back in the office 1 day every 2 weeks. I don't know anyone who's 100% wfh with no obligation to come in, ever, but I can't rule it out, either.

(Just in case it's helpful: I got a call about my entry onto duty date just about this time of year for my start date in the fall. They needed my entry onto duty date to get the results of the background check, but they couldn't confirm my start date until the background check came back. I know, it makes no sense. The actual final confirmation of start date came about 4 weeks before the start date.)

Joining CRT in the fall and my background check has been in progress for over a month, seems like it's almost complete?

Probably not. Clearances and e-qip generally take 6+ months. Even fast tracking them, I wouldn’t expect to hear anything until June or July.

Sorry, should have clarified - the FBI portion has been actively in progress during that month and several of those people told me they had submitted reports. So I took that to imply the process was nearing its end.

Still not. People reporting to the FBI doesn’t mean the process is nearing its end. It just takes a long time.

I was given an estimated start date, but they won't give me an official start date until my clearance is complete.

Damn, don't even have an estimated start date for my component. Think it's worth reaching out?

Reached out to my component recently about a start date and if there were any other updates and got ghosted. I've heard zilch since I completed the initial e-qip thing back in January.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
