Does anyone know how we are supposed to be contacted if we are selected for an interview? Is it by email or by phone? I am worried because I am currently out of the country and without cell service.
In the past it’s always been by email. And postings go up on the Avue online application system as well. It’s all automated, nothing is by phone until you get an offer at the end (again, assuming they haven’t changed anything this year).

From the DOJ website re honors program: email

E-mail Notice: The Department will send an email message to Honors Program candidates via Avue (using the e-mail address provided in the application) with specific instructions on (1) how to determine what materials to submit to the interviewing component prior to the interview; (2) how to schedule their interview using the Interview Scheduling Form. We anticipate issuing this notice on or about September 30, 2021.

Initial e-mail notification messages from the Department are issued from mail@avuedigitalservices.com. We strongly recommend that you add this address to your contacts to ensure that you receive messages issued on behalf of the Department through Avue (and to avoid your interview notice being routed to junk mail/spam folders).
Copies of email messages issued via Avue also will be posted on the candidate's online account. We recommend you review it regularly.

As a side note too, it looks like they're anticipating to post interview invites on the 30th (rather than around that date), as that's what's being said on the avue website

Just received an email that I was selected for an interview! I only applied to EOIR, and I was selected for the Office of Policy. Has anyone received interview requests from other branches, or are they still trickling out since it's not September 30th yet? I'm a bit surprised that I was chosen for a more selective branch that I ranked lower than OCIJ.

Was wondering the same thing! Hoping it's the latter, but based on the email it seems like all of the invites were meant to go out at the same time.

I was selected for an interview with Tax (ranked Crim first and Tax second)

Anyone heard from ENRD? Also, if status still says "Application Received" is it safe to assume you weren't selected for an interview?

Mine says "Selected for Interview" so I think safe to assume you haven't been selected yet. If I remember right from past years, its possible stuff will come out late though.

Received two interviews. Does anyone know how competitive civil division subgroups are if you’ve been selected for an interview? For example, how many people do they interview per available spots?

I received an interview for OIL. I'm a current EOIR clerk, and this is my second time applying to the Honors Program. Good luck to you all!

The ratio I’ve seen is around 4 interviews per 1 job opening, with some wiggle room due to veterans preference. (I think it’s usually lower for EOIR since there are so many spots, comparatively.)

Update from Deana on the Avue community page: “All HP interview notices were issued on Sept 29th. SLIP notices have not been released.”

Congrats to everyone who was selected!

Four per spot plus veterans.

E.g., there are 6 spots open, they will interview 24 people plus veterans.

No interviews here I'm afraid, good luck to all who got them! Anyone have a sense of whether ~top 3rd grades from a lower T14 are competitive for DOJ HP? Depends on the component I imagine.

This is really just my personal experience so do with that what you will. It seems to me that school is somewhat irrelevant to the DOJ (maybe with the exception of CRT), with grades being somewhat relevant, clerkships being relevant, and your essays being most relevant. I personally graduated order of the coif from my T2 school, am a current federal clerk, and received two interviews in one of the more competitive sections. I have a friend who had better grades than me from the same school, is also clerking, and received no interviews. To me, this means the essay questions are what made the difference. Shoot your shot next year if you’re still eligible but painstakingly focus on your essays.

The component and the rest of your application. The essay portions are pretty important.

I thought there was no veterans preference for attorney positions.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
