DHS Honors Attorney Program 2020/2021

Post by legalfella12 » Mon Sep 21, 2020 6:53 pm

Figured I'd get this started. Has anyone heard back from DHS for first round interviews or screening?

Nothing yet for me.

Was I supposed to get an automated reply saying my application was received? I didn't get one and it's bothering me. :/
With the other honors programs there is a portal you submit everything through, with DHS it's just an email in-box...

Nothing yet here; I also got that "we are no longer accepting e-mails for last year's program" automated response when I submitted.

I'm currently working for a DHS component, so I hope I would at least rate a screener call.

I was at a DHS component my 1L summer and a different related agency right now. So, I feel you. My GPA is technically below their cutoff, however

Checking in. I have not heard anything yet. I applied to both DHS and ICE OPLA. I wonder if DHS will do virtual interviews this year now that DOJ has announced all virtual interviews.

I heard back today for a first interview tomorrow. I believe there were several calls going out. You guys have any advice for interview questions? I've done structured interviews before but am unsure what their style is.

Had my interview today. Highly structured clearly reading off a script. A few followup questions because I have DHS and DoJ experience. Otherwise very standard "favorite/least favorite law school class?" "Tell us about yourself," "Describe a challenge you have faced."

I had mine earlier this week. Agree with what everyone has said, pretty standard stuff with nothing unexpected. A little awkward, though, because some of the questions overlapped in substance. But realistically the interviewer has a job to do, record our responses in a report, then send it off into the oblivion that is government hiring bureaucracy. Fingers crossed tho.

I learned that DHS is conducting first round interviews via telephone and second round interviews on Microsoft Teams.

I just got notified to schedule a first-round phone screener, so they may not be at the point of setting up second-round interviews yet.

I also just got contacted for a screener interview today. I applied to HQ only.

Just curious--for those of you with interviews, did someone from the Intelligence section contact you? I'm wondering if the person who emailed me is any indication that they are considering me for that section as one of the rotations or if it is just random.

I just got my first round screener. Previously interviewed with ICE OPLA Honors. Didn't realize they were separate.

Does anyone know how many people DHS is aiming to hire?

From people i talked to previously this is not an indication whatsoever. ITs just whoever volunteers to do screener interviews

Is this for ICE OPLA or for the rotation option? It was a little confusing finding out there were two different tracks for the same application.
