DOT Honors Program 2020 Hiring

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jun 10, 2019 3:09 pm

DOT Honors Attorney recruiter here. DOT will be hiring 4-5 members of the class of 2020 to add to its Honors Program. This will be the second year of our adjustment to an annual hiring plan, with two classes in the program concurrently. Last's year's thread is here: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... dot+honors, with prior years' threads linked there. General program information is here: https://www.transportation.gov/administ ... ey-program Check those out for questions/answers. Post any other questions here, and I'll answer what I can. Good luck!

I had my initial interview about two weeks ago and was informed call-backs would be conducted in October. Did anyone else who interviewed get a more specific timeframe (i.e. beginning of October, end, etc.)? Thanks!

OP here. The hiring committee is just now getting a critical mass of the first round evaluations, so I would not expect to hear about second round interview for another couple of weeks.

If we haven't had a 1st round interview yet, are we SOL?

I have a first round interview this week. It was last minute. I think you could still be in the running

I had a first round interview on 9/19 over the phone. I didn't get to ask when applicants would hear about second rounds, but I'm assuming early October?

Going off of last year's topic, it looks that way. I submitted my application at just about the very last minute and had my 1st round interview on 9/20. I would think that means they are done with the 1st-round.

OP recruiter here. First round interviews should be pretty much done, but there may be a few stragglers doing some at the last minute. Second round interviews should occur in mid-late-October. I am not involved in the process of selecting/notifying second round candidates, but would expect that to take place over the next few weeks.

My interviewer (late August) said she expected decisions to be at the very end of September into early October - so next week or the week after sounds like the right timeline, for what it's worth.

Does anyone know if they will reach out to us if they decide not to conduct a call-back? From last year's posts it looks like people just never heard back and didn't receive a rejection email.

Which state do you go to school in if you don't mind me asking? I know the DOT is organized in regions based by state(s) so I'm just curious if you're in the same region as me. Congrats!

Do the different DOT regions send out second-round invites at different times, or are they all sent out at the same time, regardless of region?

All honors attorneys are stationed in DC, so I don't know why they'd go by region.

They are all stationed out of D.C., but there are different recruiters responsible for each region and the schools in those regions. For example, Region 5 covers Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. That's why I was just curious if maybe one region has sent out callbacks, while others haven't. I agree it would make sense they all go out at once and this could be a total long shot, but I just figured I would ask the recruiter on here!

I got a callback offer on 10/7, so there's definitely still hope! Second interviews are the last week of October.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
