I think so. They're probably interviewing several people this round and may not have finished all of the interviews yet, let alone made a decision on offers. This process moves slow, I wouldn't be worried (OK, I would be worried, but it's not actually a concern).

Not sure what either office's current interview / hiring practices are at the moment, but I know both EDNY and SDNY are on-boarding new people even during the pandemic. Given the length of time that it usually takes between offer and start, the new hires likely all received their offers pre-pandemic.

WDPA posting closed a month ago and I haven't heard about an interview. Anyone want to put me out of my misery and let me know they've already been called? I remember someone posting about it a while ago.

Has anyone heard anything on the EDVA position that closed in early April or some of the recent postings in CRM fraud?

I'm confused. I applied months ago to two of the most competitive districts in areas hard-hit by the pandemic. I was supposed to go in for an interview for one of them but lockdown then happened and never heard a peep from the other. Should I reach out to see what's going on or do I just assume I've been rejected? Never got a rejection letter or email by the way, though I've heard that maybe they just don't send those.

It's perfectly fair to ask about what's up with the interview you were supposed to do (they probably should have told you already, and frankly you could have asked before this, unless they gave you some kind of timeline that's only just expired or something, but if their location was really hard hit, delays and confusion are fairly likely). The place you haven't heard anything from, though, assume rejection and move on. It's possible the hiring process has just got bogged down/delayed, and you may yet get the delightful surprise of hearing from them when you least expect it. Or you may yet get a rejection (from my experiences applying to and working in USAOs, some offices don't send out rejections until they have a candidate who's accepted, and that may have bogged down under current circumstances).

Basically, after any application, check it off your mental to do list and move on, and don't think about it again until/unless they contact you. Obviously getting offered an interview is different, but just sending out an application doesn't give you any claim on the office's time (it's sucky, they should let you know what's up and they should do so more expeditiously, but lots of places won't and there's no point wasting energy on the process).

I didn't track it meticulously, but I'm pretty sure I received multiple rejections from AUSA positions five or six months after the fact, likely for the bolded reason (in addition to it not being their top priority).

CRM fraud has already called and interviewed folks (remotely) since the recent posting. I know of at least one person who received an offer (after 4 rounds) and another at the rd 3 stage.

I have a second round interview with U.S. Attorney (civil position) coming up. I'm sure it varies jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but any insight on what to expect would be greatly appreciated. I plan on preparing the same way I did for the first, but am curious. Thank you!

Varies from office to office, but expect some questions about why that location/office, why work for the government, etc.

It’s also going to depend on the USA. I interviewed with one who is a lovely person but very quiet and reserved, and I ended up just doing a spiel about myself because they didn’t really ask any questions.

Anyone have any sense on the hiring timeline at smaller offices? I've done interviews in multiple major market USAOs (none panned out, unfortunately) but would like to know how the process in smaller markets compares.

Small offices usually hire fairly quickly because we only get openings when someone leaves/our caseloads are up, and so there’s a lot of motive to get someone in right a way. My timeline was that the applications closed 3rd week in November, I had a 1st round interview early December, an interview at the office/with the USA at the end of December, and got an offer about a week later.

Are you comfortable saying which major markets and general timing of those interviews? Just want to know if I should take myself out of the running.
