Exit opportunities in big law
Summer associate here trying to figure out what practice group to join. I don’t know how long I may want to stay in big law and want to prepare for exit ops a few years in. I’m particularly interested in restructuring (I’m at a creditor shop) but am concerned about the potential dearth of exit ops. I would rather do corporate or asset management if the potential for landing a job in PE or a hedge fund is significantly greater. Guidance would appreciated - thanks in advance!

For asset management I’d sponsor side work. I know people that have exp in tax/funds/m&a which feels like a very good exp set. Asset management from what I see doesn’t pay a lot in house. Don’t do restructuring if you want to go in house.

I’m more interested in working on the investment or advisory side in PE, HF, or IB. Not so much on in-house counsel work.
