Any thoughts? I know Boies has bad reputation at the moment, but the salary / clerkship bonus remains way above market, which is compelling to someone with student loans.

You need to think long- or even just medium-term. That higher-than-market Boies bonus isn't worth the instability 2 or even just 1 year in. Beyond one or two partners, they don't have any work left other than plaintiff-side contingency chasing. And given the scarcity, the favoritism that goes on can play against new associates to create a waterfall effect.

Latham and Wilmer are both better options all things considered, in my opinion.

Wilmer>>Latham>>>>Boies

Run from Boies. Wilmer has a stronger lit practice than Latham.

What is a waterfall effect?

guess that was a somewhat opaque reference. waterfall = new/junior/less popular associates only get the work that allows them to bill enough to get the higher-than-market bonus that earlier ITT was identified as a reason to go to BSF once (or if) the popular associates have enough volume that the work can spill over and down the ranks. and that's just much harder to do now, with the type/volume of working coming in. roughly analogous to PE analogy b/w GP and LP distributions.
