Latham DC vs. Goodwin DC

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 10, 2022 9:49 am

Trying to decide between these two firms for litigation. I liked both during interview process. I got maybe a slight sense for a little bit more opportunity for getting more substantive work at Goodwin v. Latham, but Latham has much wider breadth of practice areas. Similar billable hour minimum, both have no cap on pro-bono though Latham on average has more pro-bono hours per attorney. It does seem like Goodwin has better overall employee benefits from what's out on NALP.

I'd go to Latham if you weren't wholly convinced to go one way or the other. Latham I'd guess have better exit opportunities too, but it also depend what your long term plans are. Wanna go gov't? Probably Latham. Wanna stay around a while and make partner? Goodwin might be 'easier'? And I mean pure prestige-wise you're talking about #5 vs #29 if you care about that. Or if you wanna go somewhere that does. All that said, Latham is one of my top picks so if you pick Goodwin that's another spot for me  but seriously go where they value what you value. If it's the benefits, then I'd call up an alumni who works there and say "hey, this is where I'm at and what I'm looking for, what benefits do they give?" Because NALP is good but I don't think is is necessarily always accurate or comprehensive.

I could be missing something but doesn't Latham seem like the obvious choice here?
