Is the clerkship bonus at JD for COA below market in major markets?
Nope, standard rates.

I’d like to know this, as well as what they pay for double clerks (D.Ct. -> COA)

Are clerkships necessary to be a part of the investigations group at JD?

No, but they help. The only group that requires clerkships is I&A.

Is this still standard market? How is it possible that clerkship bonuses haven’t moved in like a decade. If this is market, then clerking really is a significant financial hit at this point.

I haven’t heard of higher clerkship bonuses anywhere other than the boutiques, BSF, and Quinn. It’s hard to imagine the amount stagnating at where it is at now.

Munger also, I think. Which is also basically a boutique.

This isn't true. IWC doesn't have associates -- they use associates from other groups like BATL and FinMar. Only of counsel and partners who are former gov prosecutors.

Can you please elaborate more on this? I'm an NLG and heard IWC is quite difficult to break into. The JD website lists some IWC associates, but they're largely concentrated in DC whereas nonDC markets seem to barely have any IWC associates

So what's the reaction been to "Servants of the Dammed"? I finished it yesterday. Fun read.

I haven't seen any reaction. The book isn't exactly revelatory. (Jones Day zealously represents corporate clients and has a small-but-influential conservative appeals group? Who knew!) It's targeted at progressives who work outside biglaw and who don't have much influence on the legal market.

Sure. Like I said, IWC does not have associates (in the US) so there's no "breaking into" it. The people you see on the website do not sit in IWC - they do some IWC work, but they are members of BATL, FinMar, etc. The show up as "IWC" on the website for external marketing purposes. Internally, there are 8 associates actually in IWC and none of them are in the United States. However, you can definitely get to the point where IWC work is the vast majority of what you're working on (I personally know several associates who get like 90% of their work from IWC partners).

Anyone else surprised with the new managing partner? Really thought it was going to be someone younger or diverse.

It's JD, lol. Lower your expectations. Will probably be another 20 years before they learn that people other than white guys can lead law firms.

Why?

Poor judgment.

This is actually a pretty silly allegation to make against JD in particular. It has a higher percentage of women/POC heading practice groups and offices than most of its peer firms. Not an inspiring pick for managing partner, though.

Any JD associates hear anything on whether we’re getting “not bonuses” this year like we did the last couple years? We’ve heard nothing in my office

Is it too shocking to consider perhaps they picked the best eligible person? Or does it just HAVE to not be a white person for you to be happy?

Mine was dated 12/22 last year and I got a call from my office PIC on 12/21.

“They” didn’t pick anyone. It was only Brogan.

I don't think there will be any "not bonuses" this year. 2021 was an extraordinary year and 2020 was in response to most people not getting a raise in the summer of 2020. Still hoping we get something though.
