Hi, I'm an NYC biglawyer talking to a recruiter about a specialist legal job at D.E. Shaw. I have a general idea of how their business works and know that they are billed as having something like a Silicon Valley feel, but wanted to see if folks had any other general info (work culture, comp outlook, "vibe", etc.).

Had their credit team as a client and know several friends who are investment professionals in their fundamental equity . All insanely smart people and overall a nerdy and nice culture, but since it's a hedge fund (albeit how massive it is), culture can be more cut-throat on the investment team's side.
