In-House Counsel & Bar Fees

Post by abitaman6363 » Mon Dec 07, 2020 12:53 pm

I'm moving to a new state for an in-house counsel position. The company has ~75 employees but no in-house legal function to date.

Registration for out-of-state in house counsel is $600+. Registration is another $200. There are likely other costs I'm not yet accounting for.

Is it market for a company to pay for the aforementioned bar fees—as well as annual state bar fees? I know the answer in BigLaw context but not for in-house counsel roles.

Yeah, it's a business expense and a requirement for you to perform your duties, similar to D&O insurance that covers you. I would ask either they pay directly or reimburse you.
