OCI help - Fordham 25%-10%

Post by phb109 » Wed Jun 15, 2022 11:56 am

Hello all,

Looking for help with bid list from Fordham. Likely closer to top 10% than 25%. I imagine I'll at least get a secondary journal but hoping for law review. no MC. went 3.3x -> 3.7x from first semester to second so also wondering how that will be perceived. have 3-4 years "professional" white collar WE. Looking to go corporate transactional.

Where to start? Thinking v10 are no gos but in range for v20 and below. Been to a few receptions but no real connections and have not done a ton of networking otherwise.

Any advice appreciated.

If you're above a 3.7 you will be top 10%. Last year top 10% was a 3.7 and that was high. It's typically closer to a 3.67.

Look through the list of OCI GPAs. You will find you're in the range for every firm but S&C, Cravath, PW, Cleary and DPW and even those firms you will have a shot in particular for corp with PW (Cleary's not a V10, but they're weird and hate Fordham for some reason). Also, of the V10s, Latham and K&E's medians are below 3.7 and they will dip downward to take based on fit. I think you're limiting yourself and need to look over some of the career center materials some more.

It probably depends if their cumulative GPA is 3.7x or if their second semester GPA is 3.7x, which means their overall could be below 10%.

OP here: I meant 3.3x FOR the first semester then 3.7x for the second semester so combined somewhere in between but solidly above 25% from last year

Ah. My mistake then.

You can still potentially get K&E or Latham, however, the others (Skadden, S&C, Cravath, etc.) are likely out of the running. V20 is in the running outside of Debevoise and Cleary. Plus don't forget some of the firms that are "ranked lower" like Willkie, Milbank and Fried Frank which are all excellent in NYC. In fact, I'd suggest using the vault NYC rankings instead of the overall since I think that's more accurate.

If you have any particular questions, feel free to DM (I'm not anonymous so you should be able to).
