5 Hour Energy

Post by Ssoto0055 » Thu Dec 04, 2008 3:08 pm

How many are using this stuff? I took one today because I have noticed a drop in my scores leading up to the exam. I know I am tired, maybe even burned out a bit. It did work as the pre break part I did what used to be normal for me a week ago, but not afterwards. Those of you that take them do you take more than one, or before and one during your break. Looks like I'll be using them this weekend, but don't want to over do it. Suggestions?

If you are going to use it on test day make sure you know how your body will react. I don't know what all is in that stuff but I am really sensitive and 2 coffees makes me a jittery mess. You don't want to experiment with anything too new before the test.

Where can I get this? I'm worried that coffee might make me want to go pee pee.

You can get 5 hour energy shots at Wal-Mart, grocery stores, and gas stations...

CVS, and Walgreens have it. To the guy above who brought up caffeine. It claims to have the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee.

TRY something before taking it on test day.......odds are adrenaline will help you through the exam.

I did use this on test day, and I attribute it to saving my butt. I only was able to get about 2 hours of sleep before test day, but my adrenaline guided me through the experimental section then logical reasoning section, but I faded and completely bombed the actual reading comprehension before break (-8 ouch). I had a 5 hour energy drink, an orange and some mixed nuts during the break, and came back to get -1 on LG and -2 on LR for last two sections, for a 166 total. I play the what-if game, such as if I had gotten a good nights sleep, if the experimental section which I owned had counted, or if I had taken a 5 hour energy drink as well before the start of test, but obviously that is not helpful to my cause. So to answer your question, it helped me tremendously, but I would be hesitant to take any uppers you don't have experience with. Just stick to cocaine if its what your used to.

I drank about 3/4 of one bottle before the test and about a half of one during the break. It worked great for me. I too get jittery from a couple cups of coffee, which is why I like these shots so much. Each shot has exactly 100 mgs of caffeine in it, which is less than a 12 oz cup of coffee from Starbucks. I find that it's just the right amount. But like everyone else has said, you definitely need to experiment with these shots before the test. 5 hour energy contains a rather large dose of niacin and some people can have a mild reaction to the dosage included each bottle.

Anything that makes me jittery is not a welcome addition.

Folks, adrenaline is a great stimulant. It kicks in full gear once the test begins. Eat a decent snack during the ten minute break, and get as much as rest as possible today and tomorrow.

Best of luck on Saturday!!

I made a huge mistake by downing one of those large (22oz?) red bulls immediately before going into the test center. I will NOT be doing that when I retake.

Tried one for studying this week (1/2 shot before test, 1/2 at the break). Holy shit. I sat down and did two practice tests in a row with a short lunch break in between and then did another games section. And I did well. Its pretty amazing stuff.

i use it for the test and it works best for me if i take about half 30-40 minutes before the test and at the break take a couple small sips. It works great for me. Using it all at once would have to make you too jittery in my opinion.

Typically, it has a latency period of 3-5 doses, over 1-2 days, before you feel the effects. If you aren't used to taking the stuff, you'll almost certainly need to compensate by increasing your initial dosage. On an empty stomach, down 1 dose per 40-50 lbs of body weight, roughly 30-45 minutes before the test.

Enjoy.....

Are you recommending someone who is 150 pounds to down 3 bottles of 5 hour energy?? If so, that is awful advice. I guess its possible that your post was sarcasm, but im sure someone will take the advice to heart. I took a half a bottle at around 1 and i am still feeling the effects now.

Only if you've never taken it before, and don't know how it will affect you

Anyone tried 6 hour jolt energy shots? I just bought them this AM and I'm experimenting today. I assume it's the same effect. For October's test I had trouble sleeping and was a little groggy/unfocused during the beginning of the test. Here goes nuthin!

It actually seems to be less powerful than the 5-hour energy. I'm guessing the "6 hour" part was just a b.s. marketing move to one up the 5-hour people.

how about cutting it with regular juice? like using a chaser? Energy drinks taste pretty foul to me in general, but I'm going to need the extra hours/focus. I know this is the LSAT forum, but has anybody used this to study for exams? I'm thinking about it and I would want to chase it with some ginger ale or lemonade or something... will that weaken it?

Any hard liquor should do. I personally chase my 5-hour energy drink down with a Scotch on the rocks.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
