LSAT SCORE FROM 162 TO 175

Hi! Is it possible to get from 162 to 175 in 3 months?
I have been studying for a month already and I'm averaging around 162 on my prep. tests (LG -3/-4) (LR -5/-8 in both sections) (RC -8/-9). I have read the Powerscore bibles and have been doing a total amount of 10 prep tests (from Prep. Test 1 to Prep. Test 10). What should I do in order to keep increasing my score and get to my target in the specified amount of time?

Thanks :)

Possible? Sure. Likely? No.

It is almost always better to defer your law school hopes and dreams a year to get a substantially better LSAT score than to plow ahead with a mediocre score. If you don't hit your goal within 3 months, just try again next time.

To answer your question directly: yes

However, you will need to spend many hours studying every day. Going from 162 to 170 is much more likely. The 175 mark requires knowing the exam like the back of your hand. This means more than 50 practice tests for most people, 20 or more of which are in the target score range.

Other than reading comprehension, the LSAT is predictable. Work your way through practice test sections slowly. Once you start seeing patterns instead of unique stimuli AND are only missing 1 or 2 per section (other than RC), you are ready for timed practice. At that point, just take timed sections and/or full-timed exams over and over again until it becomes second nature. Again, drilling comes after you are only missing 1 or 2 questions during untimed practice. At that point, there should no longer be any question types you find unfamiliar.

This is based purely on my anecdotal experience (having taken the exam twice) and what I have read on these forums.

If you're looking for motivation, sure it's definitely possible. I wouldn't set a specific number in your head though. As enz said, difference between 170 and 172 is actually pretty substantive, and sometimes setting a specific goal like that can have an adverse affect (e.g. you start obsessing over this arbitrary number and are disappointed when you come up even slightly short). You've only been studying a month, meaning there's still a lot of upward mobility for you to experience. Just focus for the next three months and score as best you can. If you get a 168 and feel like you can do better, take it again.

As far as what you can do, while the bibles are good, the powerscore course itself can be helpful as well. As the TLS forum wisdom dictates, paying a bit for a proper prep course now can lead to thousands in scholarships later, so think about it that way. If you're in a city, maybe find a tutor or in-person prep course. It can give you both extra motivation (interacting with other students) and tips from the teacher that you may not have gotten. Otherwise, just keep going through the materials and take as many PT's as you can.

162 is a good score for only a month in, just put your head down and go for it. Good luck!

I actually got 167 on a Prep. Test yesterday! I think you're right about not obsessing with a specific number and focusing more on just getting better and having a better understanding of the exam overall.

I can't go to any classes since I live abroad and here (Barcelona) they don't offer in-class courses. However, I'm taking the Kaplan prep starting this Saturday. I hope that they can help me to get closer to the score that I want.
